PSA #1

Description- Students learn how to make a Public Service Announcement using only pictures, no video footage. After lecture and multiple examples of student work, students brainstormed to pick topics for their PSAs. Students must develop the PSA with detailed documentation as follows, from start to finish. Content will be researched using a variety of proven sources, and images will be collected from various online and offline sources as well.

Overall Reflection- I really liked creating this PSA. First, I wrote my elevator speech, then the script. After that, I made my rough cut, had it  viewed by 6 people and made an Edits List. The last step was to make changes to make my PSA better. I’m happy with the way it turned out!

Elevator Speech

Description- Elevator Speech: Narrative paragraph(s) describing the PSA, intent/message, audience, and sources of content.

Elevator Speech PSA#1

Elevator Speech Reflection- The first step in writing an elevator speech is to have a topic. Each person came up with 3 topic ideas. I chose recycling as my topic. In our elevator speeches we were to include what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how you are going to do it. After we had written our elevator speeches, we got them approved and fixed any mistakes we had.

Script

Description- – PSA Script & Images: Scene by scene set-up, and detailed description of content and flow. (20 points)

PSA Script

Script Reflection- Writing the script was fun. I included facts and photos in my script, like I said I would in my elevator speech. First, we researched facts to put in our scripts, and then we actually wrote the scripts. I tried to include a lot of facts, but also images. After that, we got our scripts approved and adressed any changes that needed to be made.

Rough Cut

– PSA Production – Rough Cut: Using iMovie, content is assembled and edited for presentation – streamed from Vimeo. (30 points)

Rough Cut Reflection- I had a lot of fun making my rough cut PSA! I followed my script, gathering images as I went, and put them into iMovie to make my PSA. I added the text, adjusted the clip lengths, and transitions. After all of that, I found the music. I went to Royalty Free Music, picked out a soundtrack I liked, downloaded it to iTunes, and brought it into iMovie to compliment my PSA. I like my PSA and am excited to make my Edits List and final cut!

Edits List

– PSA Edits: Students take peer evaluation feedback and create an edits list that will be applied to their Final Cut (10 points)

Edits List

Edits List Reflection- I had my PSA edited by 6 people. They watched it and filled out a form telling me what I did well and what I should fix. I had 3 suggestions overall. I am glad that I had a chance to get this feedback, because it will make my PSA better. People gave me good suggestions that I will use when editing my rough cut.

Final Cut

-PSA Production – Final Cut: Students post edited final video on ePortfolio PSA#1 page – streamed from Vimeo (30 points)

Final Cut Reflection- I used my Edits List to make changes to my PSA. I faded the music, changed one image, and made one text screen longer. I think that these changes made my PSA better. I am extremely happy with the final outcome of my PSA. Soon in Broadcast Media,we will be having a day called “PSA theater”, where we will watch everyone’s PSAs. I am excited! I enjoyed working on this project!
