PSA #2

PSA#2 (Cal Young PSA) – Students build on their first PSA experience to make a Public Service Announcement using stills and video footage.  Students brainstorm topic ideas as a class to pick topics for their PSAs. Students must develop the PSA with detailed documentation as follows, from start to finish. Content will be researched using a variety of proven sources, and images and video will be collected from various online and offline sources, and locations.

Students will use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images – size must be 800×600 pixels or 1026×768 pixels for optimal production using iMovie. Video footage will be edited using iMovie. Students are encouraged to use text screens to enhance their message, and an audio track must be included. PSAs are to be at one of the following lengths: 30 sec., 45 sec., 60 sec., 90 sec.

Overall Reflection- I really liked making my Cal Young PSA. I first wrote the elevator speech, then the script. I made the rough cut and had it edited to create my edits list. Finally, I created my final cut. I am happy with the way my PSA turned out and I really enjoyed making it. My favorite part was filming the scenes using tri-pods and dollies. I hope I can create more PSAs and videos with iMovie in the future.

Elevator Speech

Description– Elevator Speech: Narrative paragraph(s) describing the PSA, intent/message, audience, and sources of content. (10 points)

Elevator Speech

Elevator Speech Reflection- Before writing my elevator speech, I had to come up with a topic first. I chose iPad use. In our elevator speech, we had to include what, why and how we were doing our PSA. I wrote my elevator speech and then got it approved by the teacher. My PSA is going to include how to take care of your iPad, some top reasons how iPads are damaged, and some iPad rules. I am excited to work on my speech and PSA!!

Script

Description– PSA Script & Images: Scene by scene set-up, and detailed description of content and flow. (20 points)

Script

Script Reflection- After writing my elevator speech, I started my script. I used some resources that tell about iPad use like my planner, and my iPad use iBook. I wrote my script, and then got it approved. I like my script, and I am excited to film my video scenes and make my rough cut.

Rough Cut

Description– PSA Production – Rough Cut: Using iMovie, content is assembled and edited for presentation – streamed from Vimeo. (30 points)

Rough Cut Reflection- I liked making my rough cut PSA. I took all of my clips and brought them into iMovie to make into a PSA. I added the text screens, music and transitions to it. I really like using iMovie to make videos and PSAs.

Edits List

Description– PSA Edits: Students take peer evaluation feedback and create an edits list that will be applied to their Final Cut (10 points)

Edits List

Edits List Reflection- I had my PSA watched and review by 6 people who gave me feedback on what they thought. I took the advice that they gave me and made a list of what I needed to fix. I am glad to get feedback and improve my PSA.

Final Cut

Description– PSA Production – Final Cut: Students post edited final video on ePortfolio PSA#1 page –  streamed from Vimeo (30 points)

Final Cut Reflection- I used my Edits List to make changes to my PSA. I think it is better than the rough cut because I fixed my mistakes; even if there were only a couple. I also realized that I have one more Edie to make. I will fix it soon. When it says ‘Using your iPad. Never bring it to the courtyard or lunchroom’, it is supposed to say ‘Don’t eat or drink while using your iPad. Never bring it to the courtyard or lunchroom.’ I really  enjoyed making my final cut PSA and I hope you like it!
