Group Project – Shape Box

Students will explore different software applications for creating a complex 3D prototype design(s). In teams of team 2-4, students will brainstorm ideas for replicating and/or customizing designs for common objects that are used to solve routine problems. Examples might include designing prototype car – chassis, wheels, etc. that gets assembled after printing, a prototype of ergonomic furniture, a revolutionary scooter prototype, etc. Detail in specifying measures for design elements becomes essential to successful builds.

Students will use 123d Design and/or Sketchup to “solve” their problem. Objects will be imported to Meshmixer for final tweaking and prepping for 3D printing.

Reflection –

For the group project I was in a group with Callie, Keira, Amelia and me. 😀 We made shape box that little kids play with. The lid comes off and the box has holes punched out so little kids put the shapes in the holes and they can learn to match up the shapes. 😉 Amelia made the lid and the shapes that fit inside the lid. Keira made the rest of the shapes. Callie and I made the box with indents for the lid to fit in and holes for the shapes to go in. 😎 Keira and Callie have really little cousins or relatives and they are giving their printed copies to them. 🙂 I am excited for when it prints so that I can see how it turns out. 😯 We are having the box printed with white filament and the shapes will be different colors. It was fun working on the group project!
