Group PSA- Teamwork

PSA#2 (Solo/Team Project) – Students build on their first PSA experience to make a Public Service Announcement using stills and video footage.  Students brainstorm topic ideas as a class to pick topics for their PSAs. Students work solo or in teams of 2-4 students. Students must develop the PSA with detailed documentation as follows, from start to finish. Content will be researched using a variety of proven sources, and images and video will be collected from various online and offline sources, and locations.

Students will use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images – size must be 800×600 pixels or 1026×768 pixels for optimal production using iMovie. Video footage will be edited using iMovie. Students are encouraged to use text screens to enhance their message, and an audio track must be included. PSAs are to be at one of the following lengths: 30 sec., 45 sec., or 60 sec. Longer length PSAs are OK with script approval.

Students will be graded on assignment posts and on the standard prescribed assignment posting format on their ePortfolios. Students will be given an individual grade and Team collaboration grade. (Posting format is on my instructional blog):

Elevator Speech: Narrative paragraph(s) describing the PSA, intent/message, audience, and sources of content. (10 points)

Elevator Speech #3

Reflection-The first thing we did to complete the elevator speech was I talked to my group and decided what I wanted my PSA to be about. We want ours to be about teamwork so we wrote an elevator speech about teamwork. If you watch our PSA you will learn all about how to work as a group and how it effects your daily life. We made it in pages and added a title. Once we were all done we double spaced it and saved it as a PDF. This wasn’t very fun but Im excited to make our final PSA.

PSA Script & Images: Scene by scene set-up, and detailed description of content and flow. (20 points)

Script

Reflection- For this project Maddie Molly and I thought of many different scenes. We got everything planned out, then typed it all out on a computer. We used pages and had about 15 scenes. Each scene we said the camera angle, text, background image, action, and description. After we finished we put it in our blog and printed it. We printed it so we know what we need to film. This was pretty, but filming and making the iMovie will be more fun!

PSA Production – Rough Cut: Using iMovie, content is assembled and edited for presentation-streamed from Vimeo. (30 points)

Reflection- This team PSA was really fun. We did some research and we also did a lot of filming. We filmed outside, inside, and in many different locations around the school. Before we filmed we had everything planned out so it was very easy to film everything. Once we were finished filming we put all the clips in iMovie. We trimmed so lengths and added text. We also added music and transitions.

PSA Edits: Students take peer evaluation feedback and create an edits list that will be applied to their Final Cut (10 points)

Edits List

Reflection- For our edits list we took suggestions on what we need to improve on. We put all those edits into pages. We made a list and my list had six suggestions on them. We made all the edits so our PSA could be the best it can be. Once we make these changes I believe are PSA will be good once we change a few things.

PSA Production – Final Cut: Students post edited final video on ePortfolio PSA#1 page – streamed from Vimeo (30 points)

Reflection-I think that our final group PSA turned out really well! It was really fun making this PSA as a group. I think that our PSA shows why and also explains why teamwork is so important. The first thing that we did when making this PSA was to take some notes on teamwork. After that we wrote the elevator speech that explains what is going to be in our PSA. Then we wrote the script to our PSA. Finally we used all of the videos and the pictures that we took and put them into our iMovie which made the rough cut. We then created an edits list of all things we can improve on. Overall I think that this was a very good PSA.
