First PSA

Description-

(Individual Project) – Students learn how to make a Public Service Announcement using only pictures, no video footage. After lecture and multiple examples of student work, students brainstormed to pick topics for their PSAs. Students must develop the PSA with detailed documentation as follows, from start to finish. Content will be researched using a variety of proven sources, and images will be collected from various online and offline sources as well.

Students will use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images – size must be 800×600 pixels or 1026×768 pixels for optimal production using iMovie. Students are encouraged to use text screens to enhance their message, and an audio track must be included. PSAs are to be at one of the following lengths: 30 sec., 45 sec., or 60 sec.

Students will be graded on these assignment posts and in the standard prescribed assignment posting format on their ePortfolios. (Posting format is on my instructional blog):

Overall Reflection-

First I made an elevator speech explaining briefly about my PSA. This step was pretty quick. Then I found all my images and created my script. I didn’t have many problems with this besides, I saved my images wrong so I had to re save all of them. Next I made the rough cut of my PSA in iMovie and had 6 people watch it. When they watched it, they gave me any improvement suggestions. After, I made all the changes in my PSA, made an edits list in pages, exported it as a PDF, then made my final cut. Overall I think everything turned out how I liked it. Getting the font the right size and getting the font the right color was very tricky. I wanted everything to be readable and look good. In all this project was pretty tricky because it was my first PSA, but it was very fun. My PSA is kinda long, but just enough time to get all the information in.

Elevator Speech

Reflection-

First I picked 5 topics I was interested in and posted it on my ePortfolio. I got one approved by Schiff and it was Sports Injuries. Im making a PSA on how to prevent sports injuries. To complete my elevator speech, I took some notes on my topic. Then in a word document, I told a little bit about my topic and why it will be a good PSA. I also told a little bit about why I picked this topic and why people should watch my PSA. This project wasn’t very hard, but it was fun learning about Sports Injuries.

PSA Script & Images

Description: Scene by scene set-up, and detailed description of content and flow. (10 points)

PSA Script….!

Reflection-

For our script we started off by reviewing our notes. We also looked for background images online. We made a Word Document and made all of our scenes. In all I had 13 scenes. Some scenes include facts and others include pictures and ways to prevent images. Then when we were done Schiff checked all of our Scripts. This project wasn’t very challenging, but it was still very fun!

PSA Production – Rough Cut

Description: Using iMovie, content is assembled and edited for presentation – streamed from Vimeo. (20 points)

Reflection-

This PSA was really fun to make. I got to collect images and make it into a video. First I found about 10 images and saved all of them into my files1. Then I imported all of them into iMovie on my computer and captioned them. I have some facts in my captions and some suggestions. The hardest part was finding a color for the font that you can read. After I captioned everything I went to bensound.com and found music that I liked. Then I saved it and downloaded it. When I was done I imported it to vimeo and showed Schiff.

PSA Edits

Description: Students take peer evaluation feedback and create an edits list that will be applied to their Final Cut (5 points)

Edits List..

Reflection-

I had three people watch my Rough Draft PSA. They all filled out a piece of paper. The paper graded me out of 25 and also had a place to give me feedback or compliments. I didn’t have to do much so this was pretty easy. When I was done, I made a list of all the feedback.I didn’t have a long list, meaning I didn’t have much to change. In all Im ready to seem my Final Cut, with all the edits made!

PSA Production – Final Cut

Description: Students post edited final video on ePortfolio PSA#1 page –  streamed from Vimeo (10 points)

Reflection-

For this PSA I went through all my edits list and I fixed all of them. I also switched the font on the front screen so it matched all the others. I think my PSA turned out good. It was a little tricky getting everything the way I like it, but it was still fun. I really hope Mr. Schiff likes it because it’s a very meaningful PSA. It provides both facts and suggestions about how to “Prevent Sports Injuries”
