Cut and Wash Lettuce

Cut Lettuce:

Tools Needed:

  • Cutting Board
  • Chef’s Knife

Steps to Prep Lettuce:

  • Remove the dark outer leaf

  • Find the Core

  • Remove the core by first, banging it on the cutting board

  • Then removing it with your fingers

Steps To Chop Lettuce:

  • Cut the lettuce in half

  • Cut lettuce in pieces about 1/2 inch wide

  • Turn the lettuce 90 degrees, and make more cuts about 1/2 inch apart.

Steps To Slice Lettuce:

  • Cut Lettuce in Half

  • Lie Lettuce on the sides you cut

  • Slice Lettuce
  • Across the Grain

How To Wash Lettuce:

Tools Needed:

  • Bowl or Running Water from a Faucet
  • Colander or Salad Spinner
  • Baking Sheet
  • Paper Towel

Steps to Wash  Without a Salad Spinner Lettuce:

  • Soak Lettuce in Bowl of Water or Run Lettuce Under a Faucet.  Make sure you agitate the greens to remove any dirt.

  • Drain in a Colander

  • Dry on a baking sheet lined with a paper towel

Steps to Wash  With a Salad Spinner Lettuce

  • Place lettuce in a salad spinner after washing in water or faucet
