Dragonsong by Anne McCaffery
This book is about a girl named Menolly who lives on a planet named Pern. There is something called Thread. It looks like normal thread here but it falls from soemthing called the Red Star. Perm is protected by dragons and dragon riders. I think that you should read it if you like fantasy.
