In the beginning of the story, a man named Silas Heap is walking home when he sees a baby girl laying in the snow. He takes her home, and when he gets there, Silas finds that his 7th son was born dead. In reality, the nurse drugged the baby boy and took him to the Extraordinary Wizard, because the 7th son of a 7th son (Silas has six brothers) is extremely magical. The baby girl turns out to be the princess, and the family goes on a quest to find their son.
