Tucket’s Gold by Gary Paulsen

The characters are Lottie, Francis and Billy and they are trying to get to Oregon. They find a forest and journey through it. Then Crancis is hunting and got bitten by a snake. He is unconscious for 3 weeks and then finds an Indian tribe.

Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie by Kristiana Gregory

Hattie Campbell is a 13 year old girl whose family decides they are moving to Oregon. Hattie has to leave her best friend and travel on the Oregon Trail to find the ‘promised land’. Everyone’s lips are chapped and bleeding. Crossing rivers wasn’t so easy and no one knows what to expect on this long journey to their ‘manifest destiny.’

Shane by Jack Schaefer

There a three main characters: Bob, Shane and Father.  Bob and Father live on a farm in the late 1800s.  The book is read in the first person from Bob’s point of view. They’re just a happy farm family until Shane rides into town and changes their life.
