Aurthor Dents best friend, Ford Purfect, turns out to be an alien and saves Arthur’s life from being exploded along with everyone on earth. He has an adventure traveling across the galaxy with his friends from the Vognons to mutant blind people.

The main character is Janie Johnson, she believes that her ‘parents’ kidnapped her because at lunch she sees a missing child picture on her school’s milk carton. The girl looks exactly like Janie. After school Janie finds a box in her basement with the same dress as the girl on the milk carton.
