Hello Staff,

Monday, March 5th to Friday, March 9th marks the celebration of Classified Employees Appreciation Week. Contributions by classified staff to our schools, students and families are immeasurable. Our schools would not be able to operate if it were not for the invaluable contributions and tireless efforts of our classified staff. Thank you all for making our schools the wonderful places they are for our students!

Seven items of note for this week.

• Staffing Updates, SPED and ELL – We have now received our SPED and ELL allocations for next year.

• SPED – The Learning Center is receiving the same amount of staffing next year as this year, 0.5 LC Teacher and 3.75 hours LC IA time. The CLC will again have a 1.0 teacher next year, but is receiving a 1 hour cut to program IA time, down to 14 hours, which is currently going to Jon, Kristi, and part of Sue N.’s time. One-on-one IA time has not yet been allocated.

• ELL – For next year will once again be 0.2 FTE for ELL, which will be filled by Carolyn Clements, who we will again share with Howard.

• IIPM Data Team Meeting this Thursday – This Thursday will be our six week IIPM Data Team Meeting. Subs will be coming to classroom at the times below, so plan accordingly for them. Let me know if you have any questions.

• Building Use Team Meeting Cancelled – I’m going to cancel this Wednesday’s Building Use Team Meeting unless there are any topics staff feel need to be discusses. The current agreement seems to be working, so let me know by Tuesday morning if you have anything that needs to be brought to the group.

• OAKS Accommodations – Jim Conaghan send the attached reminder about OAKS Accommodations. If you are a Test Administrator, be sure to review this important information regarding accommodations.

• After School Science Program – I’ve been approached by an after school program wanting to offer a ten-week after-school science program building solid fuel-powered rockets. This would be a fee based program similar to the drawing class we currently offer on Tuesday and Thursdays. I think this is something our families would like and requires nothing from us other than providing space, so unless anyone objects, I’m planning to set this up to start after Spring Break. I think we’ll hold it in the Corridor library and try to schedule it for Mondays since that is the only day that doesn’t conflict with the Young Rembrandts drawing class and that is not one of the early release days.

• Reminder of Animals-in-Schools Policy – The District-Wide Safety Committee has requested that we remind staff of the administrative rule regarding dogs and other animals in schools. The rule can be found online, but the rule reads as follows:

No animals, including dogs or cats, shall be allowed in school buildings or grounds while school is in session unless specifically permitted by the Principal or administrator, and proof of appropriate and/or current rabies vaccination is provided. Animals are not allowed to be on District property for any other time frames or reasons. This limitation applies to faculty, staff, and student pets as well as those of the public.

Animals granted permission to be in classrooms, buildings, or grounds will be allowed access only for a specified and appropriate educational purpose for the time necessary to achieve the educational goal. When permission is granted to allow an animal into a classroom or building, the health and safety of students and staff must be given the highest consideration.

Animals are not to be kept in buildings during school vacations, breaks, or extended holidays. Any exceptions must be obtained from the Principal or site administrator.

• Snow? – Just for fun and for those of you who want to do a snow dance, there is a small chance of snow Monday night and Tuesday morning according to NOAA (at least there was on Sunday night)!

Have an good week!
