Food boxes with seven days of meals will be available on Dec. 18 and 28

Food boxes with seven days of meals will be available on Dec. 18 and 28
4J students will continue to have access to nutritious food at no cost during winter break.

On Friday, Dec. 18, the last school day before winter break, families can pick up a free youth food box along with the daily meal. The food box provides an additional seven days of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. Free youth meal boxes will be distributed at the 10 serving sites (list of sites) during the normal pickup hours, 10:45 a.m.—2 p.m. Families receiving meals via delivery will receive their youth food boxes on Friday. The meal boxes include breakfast bread (such as banana or blueberry), sandwich fixings (loaf of bread, meat, cheese, hummus), frozen entrees for dinner, and lots of vegetables, fruit, milk and other items. Vegetarian and made-without-gluten options are available.

Then, on Monday, Dec. 28, families can pick up another week of free youth meals behind the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St., from 11 a.m.–5:30 p.m. while supplies last. The boxes can only be picked up at this location; there will be no deliveries.

When school resumes online on January 5, meals will again be delivered and available at the 10 sites across the district each school day from 10:45 a.m.–2 p.m. A dinner meal will be added to the ongoing breakfast and lunch provided each day, and extra meals for the weekend will be provided on Fridays.

Thanksgiving Holiday This Week

I hope all of you have been healthy and safe during this most recent shut down. Hopefully if the social distancing works well the rates of infection will drop and we can go back to life as “normal.”

In the mean time there is no school Thursday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you get to spend time with friends and family in socially distanced and meaningful ways.

Five more weeks of Fall term!

Sigh, Coronavirus cases are surging in Oregon and across the United States.  I hope that the “shut down” will result in the cases to slow down and allow us to meet in person for Winter term.  Till then, keep attending, practice self care, and think about what you can do vs. what you cannot do.

Two-Week Statewide Freeze
From November 18 to December 2, Oregon will be in a statewide Two-Week Freeze to stop the rapid spread of COVID-19 across Oregon. These risk reduction measures are critical in limiting the spread of COVID-19, reducing risk in communities more vulnerable to serious illness and death, and helping conserve hospital capacity so that all Oregonians can continue to have access to quality care.

Social Gatherings
Limited to no more than 6 people total, from no more than 2 households – indoor and outdoor
Limited faith-based organizations to a maximum of 25 people indoors or 50 people outdoors
No Indoor visitation in long-term care facilities

Businesses
Work from home to the greatest extent possible and close offices to the public
Restaurants are delivery and take-out only
Grocery stores and pharmacies are limited to 75% capacity and should encourage curbside pick up
Retail stores and malls (indoor and outdoor) are limited to 75% capacity and should encourage curbside pick up

Must Close
Gyms and fitness organizations
Indoor recreational facilities, museums, indoor entertainment activities, and indoor pools and sports courts
Zoos, gardens, aquariums, outdoor entertainment activities, and outdoor pools
Venues that host or facilitate indoor or outdoor events

The Two-Week Freeze does not apply to or change current health and safety protocols for…
Personal services (such as barber shops, hair salons, and non-medical massage therapy), congregate homeless sheltering, outdoor recreation and sports, youth programs, childcare, K-12 schools, K-12 sports currently allowed, current Division 1 and professional athletics exemptions, and higher education — all of which can continue operating under previous guidance issued by the Oregon Health Authority.

Face Coverings Required Statewide
Masks are required statewide for people age 5 and older in:
All workplaces, indoor public spaces, public and private colleges and universities, and indoor and outdoor markets.
Outdoor public spaces when physical distancing of at least six feet is not possible.
People with a disability or medical condition may request accommodation from the business if they cannot wear one.
