Hello Everyone,

Only one more week until the break! Four items of note for this week.

• January 3rd, Inservice and Furlough Schedule – As I shared in an earlier announcement, most North Region schools (Howard, River Road, and both our schools) will be attending a TAG training on January 3rd, from 9:30-11:00 at Howard. The rest of your day is planning time, but be aware that two hours of January 3rd is unpaid furlough time, so make sure you leave a couple hours early this day.

• Fire Drill, Monday at 8:45 – If you didn’t notice it on the calendar from last week, we’ll have our December fire drill this Monday at 8:45. The weather is supposed to be dry, but it’ll be cold.

• TumbleBooks Survey Question – 4J is no longer getting us a discount on a TumbleBooks subscription, so it’s now $499 a year. To help me decide whether it is worth investing in this amount in getting a subscription, please email me by the end of the week if this is something you would use with your students.

• Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) Help – Sara Cramer is looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping at the district OBOB event on Saturday, March 3rd at noon. If you would be willing to help it would be much appreciated. Let me know if you’re willing to help. They can use all the help they can get!

• The Mysteries of Harris Burdick Video – Here’s a fun video I came across this weekend. If you’re not familiar with this book by Chris Van Allsburg, it consists of a series of images accompanied by single sentences that, the book claims, are all that remain of books the mysterious Burdick claimed to have written before vanishing. I used to use this book for writing prompts with my class. This video animates a few of the stories. [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/33140656[/vimeo]

Have a good week and an even better holiday break!
