Hello All,

Seven items of note for this week.

• Holiday Music Program Review – If you are planning any holiday musical programs or choir performances, please read the attached Memo concerning Holiday Programs. Downtown is requesting that teachers submit an email copy of the concert program(s) for any performances you have scheduled during the three weeks before Winter Break. Please send them to Richard Long long_r@4j.lane.edu, 4J’s Music Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) by November 4th.

• TAG Testing Referrals – Please let me know by the end of the week if you have any students who you think should be tested for TAG. This year all 2nd grade students are being blanket tested across the district, but the district will also test students referred from other grade levels around this same time.

• IIPM Data Team Meeting, Thursday, November 10th – A reminder that next week, on Thursday, November 10th, will be our six week IIPM Data Team Meeting. Prior to the meeting, be sure you have progress monitored the areas discussed at the previous meeting and and entered them onto the easyCBM website. At the meeting, be prepared to discuss the progress monitor data along with any other information you have collected (running records, diagnostics, attendance, health, behavioral data, classwork, or other anecdotal data). Corridor will meet in Room 2. YG will meet in the YG Office unless I can think of a better location between now and the meeting. Subs will come to your classroom at the times below. Please let me know if you have any questions.

8:00-8:50 Corridor K/1
8:55-9:45 Corridor 2/3
9:45-10:00 Break
10:00-10:50 Corridor 4/5
10:55-11:45 YG 4/5
11:45-12:25 Lunch
12:30-1:20 YG 2/3
1:25-2:15 YG K/1

• Parent Reports for Conferences – If you would like them for conferences, I can email you a copy of the parent reports that contain attendance, easyCBM, and OAKS information for parents. Just let me know and I will email you the parent reports.

• Allan Available for Parent/Teacher Conferences – I’m available to sit in on any conference teachers would like me to attend. Just let me know the date and time so I can get it on my calendar.

• Parent/Teacher Conference Tips – Here’s are some nice resources from NEA regarding parent teacher conferences. I particularly like the fourth article, Parent/Teacher Conference Preparation. And although it was a bit long, I liked the ASCD article on parent teacher conferences I shared last year.

• Lesson Planning for Engagement – International teacher educator Fiona Baker offers tips to help teachers engage students by answering crucial questions about the “what” and “why” of a lesson’s content and its connection to learners. She believe all learners implicitly ask four fundamental questions:

1. Does the teacher know me or care about me?
2. What am I learning?
3. Why is it important for me to learn this?
4. Why would I be interested in learning this?

Happy Halloween, everyone!
