Hi All,

Six items of note for this week:

• Help Promote Your School– Ron Borges from the North Eugene Santa Clara Newspaper said he would love for staff to contact him with any story ideas, both within and outside of the school. He said you can email him directly at rjdogg70@yahoo.com or call his cell phone at (503) 784.1475.
• 2011-12 Work Year Calendars – The Classified Calendars and Admin/Licenced are work year calendars for the 2011-2012 school year, which some more detailed of information than the school calendar I sent our a couple weeks ago. The school calendars are also now online.

• Writing Workshop – I’m not familiar with this person, but folks who do know about this sort of thing speak highly of him. Barry Lane is a respected expert in the field of student writing and is an entertaining speaker who offers very practical ideas that can be incorporated into any writing curriculum. This is a fee based workshop at the Lane ESD on Friday, April 29th 9:00-3:00. Check out the flyer for more information if you’re interested. There is also an afternoon workshop from 4:00-6:00, Here are the details on that one.

• “Barry Lane’s Literacy Cabaret” – Friday, April 29th from 4-6 at Lane ESD. Join Barry for some fun and learning with writing tips and a celebration of teachers. Sponsored by the Emerald Empire Reading Council it is free for members and only $10 for others. Register to be included in a drawing for one of Barry’s books. Members can just email Karen: kantikajian@cvcable.com. Others can mail a check for $10 (made out to EERC) to: Karen Antikajian, PO Box 259, Cheshire, OR 97419.

• Quick Classroom Grant Website – Along the lines of DonorsChoose, here is another website that looks promising for getting additional funds for your classroom. Adopt a Classroom is a way for people to directly donate to your classroom. This website gives teachers complete discretion over their funds, so it’s not a mini-grant type of process like DonorsChoose. Could be worth registering for an promoting to your families.
• 9 Online Resources for Students – Teacher and writer Dave Saltman recommends nine new online educational resources that let students drive their learning in a new article here. Saltman suggests teachers visit CoolMath.com for educational math games and tools, and Scratch so students can explore physics through online simulations. He also recommends XtraNormal and Animoto — sites that offer resources for student presentations and projects.

Have a great week everyone!
