Hello Everyone,

I know this has been a difficult past few week with all of the hard staffing decisions we’ve had to make and have had forced upon us. This is certainly not an easy time to be in education, but I truly admire everyone’s commitment to our programs and for attempting to make the best of a very difficult situation. You all are the best staff I have had the pleasure to work with and I truly appreciate you and your work.

Five items of note for this week:

• School Choice Tours – This week is our final week of school choice tours. Please take note of the times and be ready for visitors to come through your room these days. Also, if you have any student work to display in the hallway or around your classroom, that is something that always looks great to potential new parents. Here are the dates of the tours.

CORRIDOR
• Tuesday, March 15, 8:30-9:30 am
• Friday, March 18, 2011 8:30-9:30 am

YUJIN GAKUEN
• Tuesday, March 15, 12:45-1:45 pm
• Thursday, March 17, 9:00-10:00 am

• PASS Drawing Bike Incentive – This Friday, each school will be drawing for the two bikes that were donated to us. Again, the criteria for students to be in the drawing are

1) No more than one unexcused absence and tardy.
2) No level two referrals
3) No missing assignments

I can take care of #1 and #2, but teachers should let me know if there are any students who should NOT be in the drawing due to missing assignments. Note that this does not mean no late assignments, but missing assignments, meaning work that was never turned in. Let me know any names no later than Thursday.
• Daylight Savings Time – Remember that Daylight Savings Time is this weekend and to “spring forward”, setting your clocks one hour ahead on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2AM. See you all an hour earlier on Monday.
• TSS Support for 2011-2012 – Next school year, CIS is paying for all schools to receive 2.4 hours of TSS support. CIS will create the staffing plan for these employees, but I did want to let everyone know that even though we have managed without a TSS this year, we will have some support next year.
• Water Safety Outreach Program – The US Army Corps of Engineers and Lane County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol are offering a free K-4, interactive, 45 minute Water Safety Presentation to elementary schools, Wednesdays through Fridays, from April 6 – May 13. The focus is to teach students how to use rivers and lakes safely, emphasizing hazards and life-saving equipment. For further information contact Christie Johnson at (541) 942-5631 ext.12. To schedule a presentation, send an email with your preferred dates to Jessica.M.VonBargen@usace.army.mil

I hope you all have a relaxing and most well deserved Spring Break!
