Hi Everyone,

Four items of note for this week:

• Daylight Savings Time – Don’t show up for work an hour late on Monday. Remember to “Spring Forward” and move your clocks ahead one hour on March 14th.
• March 29th Professional Development – All staff, both classified and certified, who work on March 29th are expected to attend the North Region in-service activity this day. The event will be held at Madison Middle School, with a continental breakfast at 7:30 and the main event beginning at 8:00 until 11:30. As mentioned in last week’s announcements, this event will be a good follow-up to the equity activities we have done as a staff and also compliment the school district’s focus on equity issues. The remainder of this day is planning time.
• Google Gigabit Fiber-to-the Home – The City of Eugene is planning to submit a Request for Information to Google to provide high speed Internet services to homes in Eugene. In order for Eugene to be selected for this service, the City must submit an excellent proposal and other entities such as schools and private citizens must show a high interest. The whole process is explained on the website here. The City is asking 4J to “nominate” Eugene by going to the website and following the information there to perform the nomination. This service might help some of our students to have Internet access at home.
• Eugene Public Works Presentations – Due to budget constraints, Eugene Public Works cannot offer their Public Works Day Event, but beginning April 15th, they are available for classroom presentations, explaining the many services they provide in the community and encourage students to see how their studies can lead to interesting and satisfying careers. Presentations can be tailored to specific areas of interest and they can even bring along a piece of large equipment for so students to get some hands-on learning. If you are interested in arranging for a presentation, let me know and I can give you the application form. Requests are Due April 15th.

Have a great week, and remember, no pinching!

Allan
