Hi Everyone,

March 1-5 is Classified School Employees Week and I want to express how grateful I am to all of our dynamite classified staff members. Without your contributions, our schools would not be what they are today, let along be able to function. Your hard work, support, and everything you do above and beyond the call of duty has certainly not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated!

Four items of note for this week:

• Read Across America – This Tuesday is Read Across America 2010. If you’d like some links to fun activities and other online resources, you can visit the following links:

o National Education Association (NEA)
o Seussville
o Apples4Teachers
o Education.com

• Free Annie Tickets – As was announced at the “Annie” preview performance, I have free tickets to see the full performance that teachers can use as classroom incentives. I have six tickets for each school. Just let me know if you’d like any of those for your students and I’ll route them your way.
• Water Safety Outreach Program – The US Army Corps of Engineers and Lane County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol are offering a K-4, interactive, 45 minute Water Safety Presentation to elementary schools, Wednesdays through Fridays, from April 1 – May 7. The focus is to teach student how to use rivers and lakes safely, emphasizing hazards and life-saving equipment. For further information contact Christie Johnson at (541) 942-5631 ext.12. To schedule a presentation, send an email with your preferred dates to Jessica.M.VonBargen@usace.army.mil
• BLOG ONLY LINK – Live Action Dr. Suess Film – Most people don’t know that Dr. Seuss wrote a live action children’s film called “The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T”. The villainous Dr. T is played by Hans Conried, who is better known as the voice of Captain Hook in Disney version of “Peter Pan”. You can see the trailer for it here.

Have a Seusstastic week!
