Hi Everyone!

Only four items of note for this week, but they’re long ones. Read on…

• Computer Imaging Update – Below is a message that was sent to principals from Les Moore, the Director of CIS, last Thursday. Be sure to email or tell me specific of problems you are encountering with the computers so I can continue forwarding these to CIS.

The Technology Steering Committee met today, Thursday, and one of the topics, of course, was the imaging project. At the meeting I promised to give you another brief update as to where we stand. As I said at the all administrators meeting, this project has been a real mess for everyone involved but we believe we are making progress. Part of the problem was with an upgrade to the wireless network. Imaging issues and wireless issues were compounding each other making it difficult to determine where the problems really were. It appears now that the wireless issue was solved late last week and the wireless network is now much more stable. There are still several issues that we are working through with the imaging but, we believe, we now know of all the problems and have solutions for them. Some of these solutions are time intensive but are doable. It is important for us to know the specific problems each school is still encountering. We are responding as quickly as possible to the messages we receive through our nethelp@4j.lane.edu account. Please continue to have your technology support person use this nethelp email. Please also know that the CIS staff is working as hard as possible to help each school through these issues. Again I apologize for the great inconvenience this project has caused and hopefully we’ll be out of this tunnel soon.

• easyCBM Report Printing – In order to print a color (or shaded) copy of the student scores you will need to do the following. You can print directly from your browser, but remember to select “Print Background Colors” and “Print Background Images” in the print menu. If you do not select these options, the list will not show either the red, yellow and green color blocks or the I for incomplete. If you would like an Excel type list you can download the scores as a CSV file from the page by clicking on the Export CSV link in the top right hand corner of the list shown on the page.
• US History Resources at Lane ESD – The Lane ESD has three American History traveling trunks available for checkout, which provide hands-on learning for students as well as an opportunity to teach using artifacts. The elementary appropriate one is on the westward migration and there is one you can get through the Lane County Historical Society about the history of Lane County. See the attachments (American History Trunks) (American History Resources) for details. The ESD also still has copies of Camas to Courthouse: Early Lane County History books available for staff members who have not yet received a copy. Copies can be obtained by e-mailing Danielle Holt at the ESD (dholt@lesd.k12.or.us). Many more history related resources from the ESD can be found here http://www.lesd.k12.or.us/ushistory/resources/units/index.html
• New McAfee Software for Staff Mac Computers– McAfee has a new version of antivirus software available that now covers malware, not just viruses. If you’d like to install this on your computer, you can download it here: http://ns.lane.edu/antivirus/security If you’d like Marvin to install it for you, you can place your request on his website here: http://www.ultraguest.com/sign/1251488737 This software may only be installed on Eugene 4J owned staff computers, not computers owned by the staff even if they are used for work, and no student computers.

Quite a few long-winded items there! Have a great week, everyone!
