Hello Everyone!

Can you believe the first month of school is almost over? It may just be me (especially since Gracie is keeping me busier at home than I’ve been previous years), but this school year seems like it’s flying by. Six items of note for this week.

• easyCBM Testing Window Closes Friday – The testing window for the easyCBM tests closes this Friday. If you have not already given your one-on-one tests results to Michael (Corridor) or Ruby (YG), do that ASAP. They need to have sufficient time to get the scores entered by the deadline on Friday.
• Imaging Updates – The new laptop images are still causing difficulties and CIS is continuing to work on the problems. What I’m finding most frustrating is that there is not much we can do at the building level and the major problems need to be fixed at the CIS level. Building can only do temporary workarounds. CIS sent an email to principals at least admitting that in hindsight this was too big of a project with too short of a timeline with too little of staff. In any case, here is the latest info from CIS:

o Docks – CIS currently focusing on getting it so that docks will show up correctly schools. I will let everyone know as soon as our application package has been fixed and will want you to let me know if it is working correctly.
o Student Fileservers – The automatic mounting of student fileserves did not work as they expected, but CIS now has a workaround by placing an icon on the dock. When a student logs-in with their username and password, they can click on the icon and their fileserver share will be automatically mounted for them. This will not work if you log-in as “Student” and “Student”. These should also show up when our docks have been fixed.
o All The Right Type – ATRT is installed on the computers. In order to allow access for all students, it had to be put in the Users/Shared folder. If you log-on to one of the computers and open the hard drive, click on the folder named Users, you should see ATRT.

• EEF Gala – Are there any staff members who would like to represent their school at this year’s EEF Gala on Thursday, October 15th at LCC? This year’s theme for the Gala is “Where in the World is Bob Welch”, where the audience can play a geography game with Bob Welch using clickers. There is an optional reception at 5:30 with a nice dinner at 6:30. Please let me know if you are willing to attend for our school and/or are willing to take a student representative with you. Thanks!
• Fence Rules – With the new security fencing around the building, please remind students that at recess, the rule is no playing on the fence (climbing, hanging, grabbing, or putting arms, legs, or other body parts through the fence). I’m hoping to avoid the classic head-stuck-in-the-railing.
• Administrative Practicum Student – Jim Conaghan, the district assessment specialist and husband of our ELL teacher Tracy Conaghan, is getting his administrative license and will be at our school as his secondary placement (the Ed Center will be his primary placement). Jim is planning to cover for me when I’m at the Ed Center for Elementary Principals meetings, so don’t be surprised if you see him around the building from time to time.
• Albertson’s Healthy Eaters Fiels Trips – Albertsons is offering free, hands-on educational field trips for grades K-4 that focus on healthy food choices, nutrition labels, and offers student food sampling. For more information, go to http://www.fieldtripfactory.com or call 1-800-987-6409.

Have a great week, everyone!
