Hi All,

Welcome back to one of the only two full weeks of school this month. If you noticed, my blog’s theme changed last week. WordPress upgraded their system, and my previous theme was too old and was no longer compatible with their new system, so I tried to pick a theme that seemed the most readable. Hope it still reads okay for folks. I’m not sure I’m sold on it and may change it to another one. Feel free to share your opinion with me.

Six items of note for this week.

• IIPM Meeting Date Change, Tuesday, January 24th – Superintendent Cabinet Meetings are making it hard for me to schedule our IIPM meeting, but Tuesday, January 24th will be the new date for our next IIPM Data Team meeting. I’ll be sending an email to grade levels later this week about the students you are monitoring and what to bring to the meeting. Grade level meetings will be as follows:

8:00-8:50 Corridor K/1

8:55-9:55 Corridor 2/3

9:55-10:10 Break

10:10-10:50 Corridor 4/5

10:55-11:45 YG 2/3

11:45-12:25 Lunch

12:30-1:20 YG 4/5

1:25-2:15 YG K/1

• Fall to Winter Benchmark Data Review – I wanted to remind staff about features on easyCBM that help you review progress from the fall benchmark to the winter benchmark. It is the “Risk Analysis” feature. Attached are directions on how to access it in easyCBM. Individual teachers can use this to see the individuals in their class.

• Taking It Up Workshop Opportunity – As I shared last week, there is another opportunity for a staff member from each school to attend the “Taking it Up” two day workshop. It’s an excellent two day workshop, on February 16th and 17th, which also offers graduate credit, that challenges participants to think differently about race and education. Please let me know by the end of the week if you are interested in attending this workshop or if you had any questions.

• TAG Training PDU – If you attended the TAG training last Tuesday, attached is a PDU form for teachers to print and save for when you need to renew your license.

• EMazing Reading Incentive – The Eugene Emerald’s baseball team are again offering their free EMazing Reading Incentive program this Spring. The program will run the same as it did last year with the Emeralds staff visiting schools for a short assembly featuring Sluggo and an interactive presentation of Ernest Thayer’s “Casey at The Bat”. They will provide teachers with all the materials to get their students started on the 10 goal reading incentive program, and upon completion, FREE tickets to an emeralds game! I know this was well received by staff and students last year, so I have set up an assemblies after Spring Break on Thursday, April 5th. Corridor’s assembly will be 12:45-1:15 and YG’s assembly will be 1:30-2:00. It’s of course optional if you want your class to participate or not, but it kids seemed to really like it last year. If you’re new to the program, attached is a flyer that describes the program in a little more detail.

• Oregon Humane Society Poster Contest – The Oregon Humane Society is holding its annual humane education Poster and Photo-Story Contest. Prizes in each contest last year included laptops and digital cameras. For more information and the themes for each grade level, go to the Humane Society website or see the attached letter. The deadline is March 23rd.

Have a good week, everyone!
