Hi All,

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend after our first full week of classes.

Ten items of note for this week:

• 4/5 Strings Assembly – 4th and 5th grade classes are invited to come to a strings assembly Wednesday morning at 8:45 in the cafeteria.
• Superintendent Leadership Profile Public Meetings and Staff Input – In the next two weeks the Superintendent Search Committee will be holding public meetings to gather information to develop the superintendent leadership profile. Please invite your staff, family, and communities to attend one of the following meetings:

1) Friday, September 24, 4:00 – 5:00, Cal Young Middle School – Library
2) Tuesday, September 28, 4:00 – 5:00, Spring Creek Elementary – Cafeteria
3) Wednesday, September 29, 7:00 – 8:00, ATA – Library
4) Thursday, September 30, 7:00 – 8:00, South Eugene HS – Cafeteria
5) Friday, October 1, 3:30 – 4:30, Education Center – Auditorium

An on-line survey will also be provided and available to all who is not able to attend one of the schedule public community/stakeholder input meetings.
• Technology Grant Contest Links – Here are two links to contests teachers can enter to win eInstruction equipment or a classroom makeover.

• McAfee AntiVirus – Please let me know if you have installed McAfee AntiVirus on your teacher computer. CIS is asking for an accurate count, so it’s fine if you have installed it.
• eSIS Printing Issues – There have been some reported eSIS printing issues this year.  One of the things that is causing this is when the user tries to print a PDF file using Preview instead of Adobe Reader. Attached are direction on how to fix this if you are having eSIS printing issue
• easyCBM Browser Issue – When testing students you should have them use Safari and not Firefox. There is an issue with easyCBM when using Firefox on 10.5 machines if the Parental Controls are turned on. On these machines, students may see the wrong class list. The easiest way around this potential issue is to just have them use Safari for testing.
• BRING Recycling – Free Educational Resources and Presentations – Every school year, BRING Recycling provides educational outreach to thousands of Lane County Schools, offering tours and interactive classroom visits for all ages. For more information, visit their website http://www.bringrecycling.org/
• Blues in the Schools – Blues in the Schools is 1-3 hours and offers grades 3-12 a fun, interactive look at blues music: how it started, why it’s such an important part of American history and culture, and how it became the foundation of rock ‘n’ roll, jazz, and hip-hop. Kids meet real musicians, hear and help make live music, write their own songs, and take home any number of souvenirs, from harmonicas to our full-color Blues Booklets. See the attachment for details if you’d like a presentation for your class or if multiple people are interested, we might arrange an assembly.
• Albertson’s Healthy Eaters Fiels Trips – Albertsons is offering free, hands-on educational field trips for grades K-4 that focus on healthy food choices, nutrition labels, and offers student food sampling. For more information, go to http://www.fieldtripfactory.com or call 1-800-987-6409.
• Costa Verde School Flood Relief – If anyone is looking for an international project for your class, Ben Decter, former Corridor 3rd grade teacher, is teaching abroad this year and the school he was teaching at was hit by a devastating flood. Information on the relief project can be found here: http://costaverdefloodrelief.blogspot.com/

Have a fabulous week, everyone!
