Howdy Everyone!

Ahhhh, a nice four day week. I hope you are all planning something fun and/or relaxing for the three-day weekend. It will certainly be a well deserved and needed break.

Seven items of note for this week:

• Teacher Equity Training – “Taking it Up” – At both schools’ staff meetings this week, I mentioned the opportunity for a teacher to attend a training similar to the CFEE Training I attended this summer (which was excellent!). The training will be will be two and a half days, November 30 – December 2. Attached is a flyer with more details. Please let me know by the end of the week if you would be interested in representing your school at the training.

• Interpreting & Translating – If you ever need translation services, please contact me or your school’s secretary and we can arrange for a translator. The district needs at least one week notice to arrange for a translator. Please let us know soon regarding translators for conferences, so we can schedule those conferences appropriately.
• easyCBM Deadline Change – The district has again extended the testing window to complete easyCBM testing due to computer imaging issues. The new deadline is Thursday, October 8th at 3:00. This new deadline means that math percentiles will not be available until October 12th. I know most people have finished testing, but this does give us additional time to pick-up any new students or students who got missed.
• Consulate-General of Japan Classroom Presentations- The Consulate-General of Japan in Portland offers outreach programs schools and are willing to present classroom activities related to Japan, including videos, Japanese language games and crafts such as origami. If you would like to take advantage of their services, please see the attached flyer.
• Eugene Architects in Schools 09-10 – Architects in Schools is a program that matches professional architects with 3rd through 5th grade teachers for a 6 week FREE classroom residency. The curriculum uses architectural concepts to teach math, science, social studies, language arts and other disciplines and includes ‘green’ building concepts. Participating teachers receive a free training that links the program to Oregon State Standards and can receive graduate credit through PSU. Attached this year’s application for the program. The, application deadline is Friday, October 30.
• Jack-O-Lanterns on 5th – Shelter Care is sponsoring a contest on Saturday, October 24th. The school with the highest percentage of student bringing a carved pumpkin to the Fifth Street Public Market, will win $200 More information can be found here http://www.jackolanternson5th.com/
• Allan’s Paternity Leave – I’ve mentioned this to individuals at various times, but I wanted to announce to everyone that I am planning to take paternity leave to spend time with Gracie for 2 – 3 weeks starting November 2nd. Carolynne Hopkins will be filling in for me in my absence. I am planning to still come back for staff and PTO meetings. I’ve put in for three weeks of maternity leave, but I may choose to come back early, the third week of November.

Have a great week, everyone!
