Who would like this book? You would like this book if you were in 6th grade of 7th grade or just in the mood for a good short story. It is more on the girly side.

The goods on this book: This book brought up a lot of emotions. It also, surprisingly brings up magic. This book is about a girl, Rebecca, whose parents are going through a rough patch in their relationship. Rebecca’s mom decides it is best to drive her and Lew, her little brother, to Atlanta. She encounters a box. Not just any box, no. But a magic box. It can grant your every wish. It comes with a price though, in the end, when she has to decide what really is best- and not just for her.

magykReview by Jaden L.

Who would like this book? It doesn’t really matter if you are a boy or a girl, you just have to like fiction, or books about magic. You may not like this if you are not into a plot that has many things happening at once.

The goods on this book: This book is about the Heap family. This story takes place after the death of Septimus Heap. The same night, Silas Heap (Septimus’ father) find a young baby girl that has violet eyes. After 13 years of living an ordinary life- well, as ordinary as life gets living with a family of wizards – they run into many problems, and discover what really happened to the “late” Septimus Heap. This book was full of excitement. Never in this book was there a time that I wanted to put it down. This book was a good read. The only thing is that many things happened at once, but the author does it in such a way that you are always reading something that keeps you on your toes.

Who would like this book? You would probably have to be in your teens to fully enjoy this book. If you like a good romance, then you would like it also. Note that this isn’t like all other romances though. It also can be a bit of a mystery, like Stargirl herself.

The goods on this book: Meet the incredible, amazing, totally unique enigma that is Stargirl. She is everything, and nothing all at the same time. At least, that is how she describes herself. Captivated by Stargirl, Leo falls in love. When the people end up turning on her, he helps her change. But not all change is good. Will it destroy her? Or is this change for the better? One thing is for sure, though. Stargirl will always be a mystery.

Who would like this book? I think teens who like suspense, adventure, and a little romance would like this book.

The goods on this book: Tally Youngblood dreams of becoming pretty. She spends every waking moment thinking about it. Then she meets Shay. Shay has the same birthday as Tally, but one of the many things that they don’t have in common is the fact that Shay doesn’t want to become pretty. Tally gets to visit Dr. Cable. She is the head of Special Circumstances, the people who run the town. Who would like this book? Kids who are 5th graders and up, particularly middle school students.

The goods on the book: Rafael Khatchadorian, AKA Rafe, is a sixth grader in Hills Village Middle School. Rafe planned to be one of those students who just blends in and gets no attention, but on the first day of school, the moment Rafe sat down in his class, he got Miller the Killer’s attention. Miller is a well known bully and is now Rafe’s arch enemy. Now, Rafe can’t get through middle school being “normal.” So, his plan is to break every, and I mean EVERY, (notice the capital letters) rule in the the book. With the help of his friend Leo, will he be able to be the first kid in the history of middle school to break every rule in the school rule book?

timeWho would like this book? Fans of time travel science fiction will love this book. I’d like to hear what fans of Dr. Who think of this book.

The goods on this book: Each chapter in this book starts with a specific year and place, most ranging from 1941 in Germany to 2001 in New York. Foster, the TimeRider charged with protecting the world from the consequences of time travel, begins the book by assembling a new team. He plucks Liam from the sinking Titanic, Maddy from a plane about to crash in 2010, and Sal from a burning building in India. These three, along with Bob, their Superman of a robot who is the support for operative Liam in the field, are thrust into heart-stopping danger as they try to foil the nefarious plans of the megalomaniac, Paul Kramer. The TimeRider team faces trouble at every side as they struggle to undo Kramer’s alternate course of history. Their struggle is a suspenseful adventure, a page-turner that manages to avoid confusion as the plot jumps from different times and places. A few details demand that the reader suspend disbelief, but overall the story holds together and is plausible within its own design. The experience of the characters brings up many “What if?” questions as well as giving windows into many critically important historical events, making this book valuable as a discussion-starter. It’s a great addition to the 2013-2014 Battle of the Books selections.
