Who would like this book? I think that anybody who likes fantasy, mystery, or action could read this book. Anyone who has also read The Iron Fey series would also like this book.

The goods on this book: Ethan Chase has the Sight. He can see the faery, and has nothing but disgust for them. He does not speak to Them, talk to Them, or acknowledge his Sight. Until he is attacked, and is forced to seek help from his faery Queen sister who left him with Kenzie, a mortal girl. And in the Faery world, there are twists at every turn.
This was a great book, and I would definitely recommend it. It kept me up all night!

Who would like this book? Whoever has read the first three books in The Iron Fey series should really like this book. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa is the fourth and final book in The Iron Fey series, and it is as good as ever. The Iron Knight is told from Prince Ash’s point of view.

The goods on this book: Ash thought that feelings and emotions were weaknesses. Especially love. Especially when his own love died. Until he met Meghan Chase. But Meghan is now queen of the Iron realm, where no Summer or Winter faery can dare to step foot in. Unless Ash can earn a soul. With Grimalkin and Puck, Ash embarks on a journey to honor his oath to Meghan: to never leave her again. Along the way Ash discovers a secret that forces him to an ultimate sacrifice. But Ash must keep his promise to Meghan, or else he dies…or worse.

Who would like this book? People who like a darker book with criminals would like this book.

The goods on this book:  Cadel lives in Australia. He is a super genius. His main category is computers and electronics programming. Hacking into the school is toooo easy for him, so he hacks the military and government systems. He leaves no trace nor harm. This is him at 7 years old. He only got caught hacking once. His punishment was he could not go anywhere near any computer. He got taken to a psychologist named Thaddus Roth. That is where we start. During their first meeting Thaddus Roth let him go on his computer. He had him meet his real dad and he allowed him to do even more.  If you want to hear what all happens to Cadel, read this page turner. By the end, you will feel like it was the last book in the series, but no, this is only the first one.

Review by Carson W.

Who would like this book? This book’s main audience is more focused toward girls about middle school age, even though it is written at about freshman level, and is about a teen that is graduating high school.

The goods on this book: Auden is a girl who has always been challenged when it comes to making friends. When she stays the summer at a house in Colbie with her stepmom, Heidi, dad, and their newborn baby, Thisbe, things start to get a little hectic. With Heidi stressing about the baby, college applications, making friends, dealing with a mean (and overly controlling mom), working, and studying textbooks for next year’s courses, Auden finds herself stuck in a town obsessed over biking. She is soon pulled into a group of friends and realizes that there is more to life than striving in classes. This mainly becomes apparent to her when she meets a boy who is struggling to find the brighter side of things after his best friend, Abe, is killed by a drunk driver. This strange boy is named Eli. He lights up Auden’s life in a way that school work can’t. Eli helps her to experience things she never had a chance to, because of her mom, and also her parent’s divorce. He calls this her quest. And with his help, Auden slowly learns to “get back on the bike” when things aren’t working out. I liked this book because of the way all of the characters change over time, and not always for the better. As Auden progresses in this journey she discovers some stuff from her parent’s divorce that had been buried for a long time. I also like how this book gives more than one perspective throughout the story, even though it is written at first to be Auden’s.

TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow

timeWho would like this book? Fans of time travel science fiction will love this book. I’d like to hear what fans of Dr. Who think of this book.

The goods on this book: Each chapter in this book starts with a specific year and place, most ranging from 1941 in Germany to 2001 in New York. Foster, the TimeRider charged with protecting the world from the consequences of time travel, begins the book by assembling a new team. He plucks Liam from the sinking Titanic, Maddy from a plane about to crash in 2010, and Sal from a burning building in India. These three, along with Bob, their Superman of a robot who is the support for operative Liam in the field, are thrust into heart-stopping danger as they try to foil the nefarious plans of the megalomaniac, Paul Kramer. The TimeRider team faces trouble at every side as they struggle to undo Kramer’s alternate course of history. Their struggle is a suspenseful adventure, a page-turner that manages to avoid confusion as the plot jumps from different times and places. A few details demand that the reader suspend disbelief, but overall the story holds together and is plausible within its own design. The experience of the characters brings up many “What if?” questions as well as giving windows into many critically important historical events, making this book valuable as a discussion-starter. It’s a great addition to the 2013-2014 Battle of the Books selections.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

by on Jul.26, 2013, under Adventure, Romance, Sam's Reviews, Uncategorized

imageWho would like this book? Fan of Peter Pan, 8th grade and up, who are interested in getting a different perspective on the story.

The goods on this book: Tinker Bell narrates the complex and dark story of Tiger Lily, Peter Pan’s mysterious love. Tiger Lily has grown up in the Sky Eater tribe of Neverland as an outsider and a wild girl, the adopted daughter of the tribe’s shaman. She loves the forest and is an expert tracker and hunter. One day, she encounters a man from England, barely surviving a shipwreck. She rescues him in spite of her tribe’s warnings, an act which brings her closer to Peter. Her complicated, emotional, and spirited relationship with Peter becomes the central focus of the book, and her struggles with her feelings for him and her difficulties with her tribe make for a deep and satisfying read. This book is for more mature readers who are curious about the psychological complexity of Tiger Lily; it is not a simple retelling of the Peter Pan story.

Out of the Boneyard by Jeff Smith

Review by Alyssa

Who would like this book?  Mostly younger kids, maybe more males. It’s a good fast read, and there are a lot of pictures, I only read it to pass the time. I would recommend this book to people with lower reading skills.

The goods on the book: In Bone, Out from Boneville, well the title is pretty self-explanatory. There are these creatures called “bones” and three of these bones get chased out from their home, “Boneville”. They then get separated by some “insects”. Did I mention why they got chased out of Boneville? Well, Smiley Bone’s cousin got them chased out when he tried to run for mayor, and everything went wrong. The main character is Smiley Bone, and when he and his cousins get separated, he follows a map into a valley and gets snowed in for the winter. He makes friends with a girl named Thorn. What will happen next? Will he fall for her? Will he find his cousins? Read the book to find out. There are also more books in the series, that I don’t plan on reading, but if you like this book, you can read them, too. It’s a graphic novel, and some graphic novels are good, but not this one.
