Who would like this book? Anybody who has a thirst for action, or wants to finish the Maximum Ride series, would like this book. It can be for boys AND girls, and age doesn’t matter. I recommend this book to anybody who likes a good book!

The goods on this book: Meet the flock- Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel. They aren’t exactly ordinary. They have bird DNA, and can fly. They are on the run, but from what? The evil scientists at Itex (a major, and evil, corporation) made new Erasers (lupine-human hybrids)- except now they are machines. And there are many of them. With the plan to eliminate half of the world’s population about to start, and new confusing feelings for her best friend Fang, will Max stop the scientists? Will she find more out about her mom? Read this book for answers!

Who would like this book? I think the targeted audience is people ages from ten to fourteen.

The goods on this book: The Giver is set in a town in the future were everyone but a person named “the Receiver” is oblivious to the past. The government controls everything people know and even see. Jonas, the main character, is selected to be the new Reciever. He knows nothing about the past, but he has to learn about it. Also the government took away the peoples’ abilty to see color. When Jonas see color, he thinks he is going insane. Every thing Jonas knows is nothing compared to what he is about to learn.

Who would like this book? Any young reader would enjoy this action-packed thriller from beginning to end.

The goods on this book: This action-packed book starts with Thomas, a teenage boy 15 to 16 years old, who is trapped in a pitch-black shaft going up. Thomas has no memories of his past; he can only remember his name. The shaft stops and the roof opens to find a group of boys from the ages of 13 to 19. Thomas finds himself getting out of the shaft and being in a large area with massive sized walls around it; the other boys seem to call it the Glade. Thomas’s adventures in the Glade are tremendous. Every chapter leaves you hanging. I love this book so much; I love how in every chapter you know as much as Thomas does. I hope you love it, too.

Who would like this book? People who like basketball.

The goods on this book: Jonas, a high school basketball star, is trying to make it into a Division 2 college. His parents have to move from California to Seattle for work. It makes life a lot tougher for Jonas. His new coach likes playing at a slow pace. Jonas is sitting on the bench, but he has a great connection on the basketball court with Levi, his new friend. This book deals with a lot of basketball and problems. This book was great and one of my favorite sport books.

Who would like this book? Anybody with a thirst for action and adventure. This book is suited for boys AND girls. Also, if you read the first book in this series: The Angel Experiment.

The goods on this book: Meet the Flock- Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel. They are not your everyday kids- they can fly with wings. They have avian-human DNA, and are on the run from the people who made them this way. The Erasers – lupine/human hybrids – were made by the same people who made the Flock. The Flock are hunted down by the Erasers, and when Fang is attacked they have to go to a hospital. There, they are taken in by a too-good-to-be-true FBI agent and have to face something like never before – a school! Join the Flock in this thrilling sequel to James Patterson’s Maximum Ride- The Angel Experiment.

This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales

by on Sep.09, 2014, under Real life, Sam's Reviews

songWho would like this book?  Readers, 12 and up, looking for a first person narration by a misfit girl with a funny, insightful perspective.

The goods on this book: Elise has always been an outsider and a target for bullies and jokes. She is amazingly smart and organized, though, and begins the book by channeling her formidable talents into the study of being popular. It is obvious that this  project is doomed to failure. Elise hits an all-time low. Just as she is in her deepest depression, a late night walk to nowhere brings her across a warehouse in which an underground dance is happening. Events in the nocturnal, secret visits to the warehouse open up possibilities for Elise: friends, a boy-interest, and a talent for being a DJ. Her story seamlessly weaves these experiences with her family and school life, pulling the plot to a believable climax (well, it stretches the imagination in a few places) that is resolved in a richly satisfying way. This book is worth reading because of Elise’s fresh voice and the story of how she finds out what an awesome, cool person she really is. I lost some sleep while reading this book because I couldn’t put it down.

Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher

by on Sep.09, 2014, under Grief, Real life, Sam's Reviews, Teen Top 10

13Who would like this book? People, 13 and up, looking for a first person narration dealing with a teen’s suicide and the reasons for it would appreciate this book.

The goods on this book: Clay Jensen is a quiet, shy high school student and has been disturbed by the suicide of his friend, Hannah. He becomes distraught and obsessed when he unwraps a package of cassette tapes of Hannah recording the story that led to her decision to take her own life. As Clay listens to the tapes, he navigates through their town so that he can listen to each part of Hannah’s story in close physical proximity to where it took place. The book alternates between the text of Hannah’s voice from the tapes and Clay’s reaction as he  listens to these tapes. Clay had a crush on Hannah and shared an evening with her shortly before she died, so the experience of the tapes is very hard for this sensitive guy. My heart really went out to him even more than Hannah. The strong message of this book, to see other people for who they truly are and to care for one another, comes through to the reader as it comes through to Clay. Though this book might not be the best for understanding suicide, it is important in showing how a steady stream of difficulties and hurts can push a person such as Hannah over the edge. It is tragic that she has nobody to turn to.

howlReview by Nick Y.

Who would like this book? I recommend this book for children 11 years or older of age. Witchcraft is used and mentioned almost all he time throughout the story.

The goods on this book: Sophie, the eldest of three sisters works at a hat shop in the town of Market Chipping. Rumors spread about the Howl and the Witch of the Waste coming to Market Chipping to see the Royal King and help with his army. Sophie and her sisters always feared Howl, hoping they would not be snatched and eaten when alone. So they would always stay together when going through Market Chipping. Suddenly, one night, while closing the hat shop, the witch of the waste cursed Sophie to become old. Once Sophie looked at herself, she was terrified by how old she looked. She had to leave the hat shop, hoping she would not be caught by any of her sisters. What will Sophie actually be doing? Where will she go?
