Howdy Everyone!

The year is off and rolling and we’re heading into our first full week of classes! I don’t have quite as many items this week, but here’s what you need to know for now:

• District Reading and Math Screener Info – See the attached information (testing-information_fall_08.doc) for specifics on how students will be assessed on the district reading and math screeners. Note that there are two changes to this document that came out late last Friday:

• We do need to administer the multiple-choice comprehension and vocabulary measures to students in grades 2-5.
• Students will not be using the computers this time. The testers will be providing test booklets and students grades 3-5 will fill-in scan sheets like last year. (Students in grade 2 will circle the answer.) The testers will bring the test booklets and scan sheets.

I’ve also just gotten testing reading screener testing dates over the weekend. Testing at both schools will happen the week of September 29 – October 3. I’ll let people know the specific grade level schedule as soon as the testing coordinators contact me. Even though this is rather late, the good news is that with the new EasyCBM testing method, we’ll have data immediately after kids are tested.

• Tumble Books – Our subscription to Tumble Books will be renewed for this school year. If you have to tried Tumble Books, here is the site. http://www.tumblebooks.com/ The site provides animated, talking elementary age picture books, along with puzzles, games, book reports, and quizzes. The username and password for each school is:

• USER – yujin, PASSWORD- books
• USER – corridor, PASSWORD- books

• Pacific University Practicum Students – Also attached (Pacific University.doc) in this email and also on the blog is a form to complete if you are interested in hosting a student teacher or practicum student.
• Allan Likes Classroom Newsletters – Please put a copy of your classroom newsletters in my mailbox. It’s a nice way for me to keep up on what is happening in your room and dates of any future field trips or events. I’ve already gotten several newsletters this week. Thank you!
• Izzy’s Pizza Gift Certificate Awards – Izzy’s Pizza is offering free Academic Achievement Awards for students, similar to Pizza Hut’s Book-It-Awards, which rewards kids with a free Izzy’s Classic Buffet. Izzy’s will give you the gift certificate/awards for a projects such as reading a certain number of books, completion of a difficult assignments, meeting class attendance goals, and such. If you would like to start a reward program with these awards, send an email to Nancy George at nancyg@izzyspizza.com
• Albertson’s Healthy Eaters Fiels Trips – Albertsons is offering free, hands-on educational field trips for grades K-4 that focus on healthy food choices, nutrition labels, and offers student food sampling. For more information, go to http://www.fieldtripfactory.com or call 1-800-987-6409.

Even though there were a lot of announcements I managed to keep it to one page. Have a great week everyone!
