Hello Everyone,

Nine items of note for this three day week.

• Free Tutoring for K-12 Students – The Back to School/Success in School program is a free tutoring/mentoring service that provides academic support for all student in all the core content areas. Tutoring sessions are held at the LCC Downtown Campus, 1059 Willamette Street, from 10-12 most Saturdays. Please share this attachment and information with families of students who would benefit from this program or even share it in a class newsletter.

• North Region Elementary TAG Training, January 3rd – 4J is making some changes to TAG identification and services and are having all teachers attend a TAG training to review these changes. North Region elementary schools will all take part in a TAG training on January 3rd, 9:45-11:45. The location is not yet determined, but I wanted everyone to have this date on your calendars.

• Fire Drill, Tuesday, November 22nd, 10:45 – As long as it isn’t raining, which is predicted at the moment, we’ll have our November Fire Drill this Tuesday at 10:45. If this date gets rained out, we’ll try again the following week, the same day and time.

• Emerald Empire Reading Council Newsletter – Attached is the November/December electronic issue of The LiteracyLine, the Emerald Empire Reading Council newsletter. This issue contains recommended books for various ages to give as gifts, a flyer for their free January 9th Writing Workshop at the ESD, and several good articles including one on various holiday myths that lists the myths and the facts that refute them. More information can also be found on their website.

• New Superintendent Visit – Our new superintendent, Sheldon “Shelley” Berman, is visiting all schools this year and will be visiting our school in the new year. He’ll be at YG’s staff meeting on Wednesday, January 25th and at Corridor on Friday, February 3rd. He’s also planning to come before school lets out, so don’t be surprised if you see him in your classroom as I tour him around the school.

• Bus Safety Training Reminder – Remember to tell me once you have completed the mandatory bus safety training with you class before Friday, December 9th. See my previous announcements for how to fulfill the requirement, but the easiest way to meet the requirement is to show your class the video “The Safest Way Out”. Let me know once you have show this video or completed one of the other allowable training methods, so I can submit the compliance form to the Transportation Department.

• Sacred Heart Trauma Nurse Classroom Presentation – Sacred Heart Medical Center is offering free 30 minute presentations on Helmet and Seatbelt Use for up to 50 students, grades K-5. The goal of the program is to give students tools to recognize potentially harmful situations and behavior that supports injury prevention. See the attachment for more details. If you are interested, call or email Anne Williams at AWilliams5@peacehealth.org or 541-686-6857 in the Public Affairs Office.

• Adobe Youth Voices – Here is a set of great short videos to engage youth or adults in conversation on issues ranging from race, bullying, to making good choices. All videos are less that 5 minutes. Here is one of my favorites, “I Am Not Who You Think I Am”.

• Baby Update – I forgot to put it in last week’s announcements, but Kim and I just found out we’re having a little girl. Gracie kept saying she was going to have a little brother, but she seems quite fine with the idea of having a little sister instead. March 31 is the due date, but Grace came three weeks early, so we’ll see what happens.

Have a great week and hope you all have some quality family time over the Thanksgiving holiday!
