Hello Everyone,

Five items of note for this week.

• Fall Back, Standard Time – For those of you reading this Sunday, remember to turn your clocks back an hour and enjoy your extra time at home.

• New OAKS Cut Scores – Attached are the new OAKS Achievement Standards for Reading and Math. The Science cut score increased by 1. The reading cut scores increased 3-7 points depending upon your grade level. There is also are the Academic Achievement Standards for 2011-12, which shows the achievement levels for Reading, Math, Writing, and Science content areas. “Low” and “Very Low” are categories used to determine Report Card Performance ratings.

• IIPM Data Team Meeting this Thursday – This Thursday will be our six week IIPM Data Team Meeting. Look for an email with meeting details and also a list of the students we discussed at the previous meeting. Subs will be coming to classroom at the times below, so plan accordingly for them.

• Outside Drinking Fountain – With overnight freezing temperatures on the way, facilities is turning off all outside drinking fountains until the Spring.

• See Baby Discriminate – This article is a couple years old but it’s fascinating if you haven’t read or heard about it before. Kids as young as 6 months judge others based on skin color. The thrust of the article is to ask, what can parents (and by extension educators) do to change discriminatory views that are for so early? The most interesting piece of the article is that these views are not formed by of parents passing down their discriminatory views, but are largely formed in children by parents (and educators) NOT taking about race.
