Hello Staff,

I hope you all were able to have some time to relax over the three day weekend.

Just four items of note for our four day week.

• “Taking It Up” Workshop Opportunity Date Change, Nov. 17 & 18 – The dates were changed from what I originally posted in last week’s announcements. Too many schools had conferences during those dates. Anyhow, I went the four day version of this training and it was the best workshop I’ve ever attended! I can’t recommend it enough. See last week’s announcements for details. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please let me know by the end of the week.

• Disney’s Planet Challenge – Disney’s Planet Challenge (DPC) program is a FREE project-based environmentally-focused national competition for 3rd-5th grade students. DPC is a unique chance for teachers to blend standards-based content, critical thinking skills, and environmental principles in a class project that moves students from awareness to action for a positive impact on their community. Visit the DPC website for more information about the challenge and also the prizes for teachers and students.

• Adobe Youth Voices – The Adobe Youth Voices website provides access to free curriculum materials on how to develop media projects with students. It has step-by-step processes as well as hand-outs and frameworks. There are also samples of actual student work that are amazing.

• A New Trend in State Testing? – California Gov. Jerry Brown is taking the radical stance of putting the brakes on state testing. This is certainly not the direction most governors are taking, but it’s interesting that the most populace state in our country is likely ending the trend of increased testing and tracking of students. On her Twitter feed, Diane Ravitch wrote, “Governor Jerry Brown is my hero.”

Have a great week, everyone!
