Hi All,

The first three items this week seem a bit bossy, but I turn 40 this week so that will be my excuse.

Five items of note for this week:

• Educator Goal Plans for Teachers – Set a Date for Goals Conference with Allan by Friday – In teacher mailboxes this Monday will be blank copy of the 4J Educator Goal Plan. I’m going to be doing them different this year and will meet individually with teachers to review your goals and you plans for how to meet your goals and objectives. I always encourage people to think of a goal that stretches or pushes yourself. However, keeping workload in mind (which I don’t want to add to), make it something realistic and something you genuinely are working on improving in yourself or your practice. Attached is an PDF version of the goals form if you’d prefer to complete it electronically. All non-itinerant teachers should contact me by the end of the week to set up a goals conference meeting to take place sometime during the month of October (or sooner if you like). Please let me know if you have any questions.

• Mandatory Policy Acknowledgment Forms Due – If you have not done so already, all staff must review the district policies under section 1 of the attached document and return the acknowledgment form to me no later than this Friday, September 30th.

• Parking in Back of Cafeteria – Last year we began allowing staff to park behind the gym area next to the NEHS track. However, more cars are trying to squeeze in than there are spaces, so these are the rules for parking in the back.

  1. The parking spots along the gym and cafeteria are for kitchen, custodial, maintenance and delivery vehicles only.
  2. There are five other parking spots available for all other staff, which are first come, first serve. Once those five spots are filled, no other cars may park in back of the building.
  3. DO NOT park in front of the gate leading to the track area or anywhere behind the building outside of the designated five parking spots. Click the image bellow for clarification of where parking is allowed.

On a related note, facilities will be coming out sometime soon to repaint lines, but the day they come out we’ll have to close the gate to any staff parking.

• easyCBM Risk Scores – For grades 3, 4 and 5 the vocabulary test is not yet normed and is not factoring in on the risk rating. As soon as the national easyCBM use window closes (early to mid October) norms will be established and applied to the vocabulary test. When this happens it could change the overall risk rating either up or down from what it is now. However, we can sort the raw scores on vocabulary to give us an idea of how well students performed.

• Twenty Everyday Ways to Model Technology Use for Students – Here’s a great Top 20 List of how to model technology that takes the attitude, it’s all about Think Aloud. The age-old trick of simply narrating everything you are doing as the wiser, more experienced brain in the room. Narrate your decisions and your rationale and you will be teaching your students how to make good decisions online and off. Model it, live it, talk about it. It’s all “using” technology.

Have a fabulous week, everyone!
