Hi Everyone,

We survived our first full week back and everyone still has all their fingers and toes, so it must have been a success (although one student did end up with six stitches on their finger, so we almost didn’t make it).

Nine items of note for this week:

• Staff Rep Needed for EEF Back-to-School Celebration – This year’s EEF Back-to-School Celebration is October 4th (hosted by Mike Bellotti) and I’m looking to see if there are any staff reps willing to attend for each of our schools. There is a reception at 5:30 and dinner at 6:20. The event will be held at the LCC Center for Meeting and Learning (in Building 19). Two changes, compared with prior years: free admission is offered to school staff and they’re not asking for students to join us. Attached is a flyer for the event. Please let me know by the end of the week if you are willing to be your school’s rep. Thank you!
• easyCBM Data Deadline this Friday – All easyCBM data must be completed and entered by this Friday, September 23rd. Please let me know if you have any questions.
• Remember to Set-Up Your Voicemail – If you haven’t done so already, make sure you have set-up your school voicemail by the end of this week. Attached are the directions for how to set up your voicemail. Please let me, Joanne, or Diane know if you need any help with this. All voicemails should be set-up by the end of the week.
• Math Teacher Leaders Volunteers – Downtown is again forming the MTL group for this year and are looking for two teachers (one K-2 teacher and one 3-5 teacher) from each school who would be interested in attending at these meetings. There will be seven, monthly, Tuesday meetings this year with the first one on October 11, 4:15-5:45. See the attached flyer for details. Each school already has one Math Staff Advocate (Justine for Corridor and Ashley/Jan for YG), but please let me know by the end of the week if you would be willing to serve as the other math rep for your school.
• New Temporary YG TSS – Anthony’s temporary replacement for while he is on leave, Monica, has been hired for another TSS position in the district and David Green, who is currently subbing for Anthony at Madison and Spring Creek, has agreed to pick up the YG hours. David will have the same hours at YG, 7:30-11:30 Tuesday and Thursday. Please welcome David as he get’s to know our school!
• Fire Dill, Friday at 9:00 – Our September fire drill will be this Friday at 9:00. Please let me know if you have any questions about our evacuation procedures.
• Twenty Tips for Creating a Safe Learning Environment – In honor of Edutopia’s 20th anniversary, they’re producing a series of Top 20 lists, from the practical to the sublime. This one is a nice list of how to create a safe learning environment. None of them are earth shattering, but it is a nice list of reminders.
• Inspirational Video – This video exemplifies the difference one child can make and just as importantly how teamwork and collaboration are the keys to solving most problems we face.

• Allan’s Announcement – One final announcement, later this year I’m going to be a dad again. Kim is pregnant with our second child and is due the last week of March. We’re not as stresses and freaked out as the first time around, but I’ll probably still take a week or two off after the baby arrives.

Have a good one, everybody!
