Hello Everyone,

Eight items of note for this week:

• Staffing Survey Due, Tuesday, February 22nd – If you haven’t done so already, please return your staffing survey to be my Tuesday, February 22nd. I will be receiving our staffing on the 23rd, so I’ll be using your input to help me with drawing up our initial staffing scenarios for the 2011-2012 school year.
• New CLC Staff – Please welcome Debra Cornell to our school. Debra will be a temporary autism one-on-one IA in the CLC beginning this week for a new Corridor student who is also starting this week. Help make Debra feel welcome and help her out when you can!
• Math Binders – Downtown has heard concerns with the Investigations/EnVisions Custom Teacher Resource Binders falling apart.  Janis Swan has negotiated for them to send us new binders.  These are the binders teachers have that include the pacing guide and lesson plans. When they arrive, teachers should replace your old binder by putting the contents in the new binder.  These binders are much more durable.  If you decide to make two binders to lighten the load, please mark the binders on the front as Book 1 and Book 2.
• Public Works Day – The City of Eugene is once again holding their Public Works Day. They are inviting students to attend the event on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Open House hours are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Public Works Yard at 1920 Roosevelt Boulevard. You can find more information on the attached flyer or on their website.
• Fire Drill, Thursday at 8:40 – Since last week’s fire drill got rained out, we’ll reschedule our February drill for this Thurday, February 24th at 8:40.
• Madison Middle School Band Performance – It’s a way out on the calendar, but the Madison Middle School Band would like to perform for each of our schools on Tuesday, April 12th. They’ll do a performance for each school so all classes who want to come can attend. YG’s performance will be 9:30-10:00. Corridor’s performance will be 10:10-10:40. This is an optional assembly, so if you have other plans for your classes, you do not have to attend.

• Seven Technology Tips for Younger Elementary Students – Elementary school computer teacher Mary Beth Hertz offers seven suggestions in this blog post for using technology with younger students. Among other things, Hertz recommends that teachers test the technology first to try to identify potential pitfalls for students and avoid introducing too much new information at one time. She also suggests using students as a resource and allowing those who master skills quickly to help their peers.

Have a great (and maybe snowy) week!
