Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a pleasant four day weekend.

Eight items of note for this week:

• TAG Testing Referrals Due Jan. 28th – The district is doing their annual TAG testing for students referred by parents or teachers. Attached is a a list of common characteristics of intellectually gifted kids. I know that certain kids will come to mind as you read these. The test 4J uses is called the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test. (NNAT). Please send me names of students you think should be tested by Friday, January 28th.
• CLC Staff Update – With Marueen’s retirement over Winter Break, we have had a opening in the CLC, temporarily filled by Wendy Steindorf. ESS has an employee returning from a leave, Dianna Lee, who will permanently take over the position starting Tuesday. Wendy will stay on for two additional days to help with the transition. Dianna has been a one-on-one for a young student at Adams for many years and then for another student at the Community Living Program at Sheldon, which is a CLC at the high school level. Please welcome Dianne as she joins our school community!
• Oregon Humane Society Poster Contest – The Oregon Humane Society is holding its annual humane education Poster and Photo-Story Contest. Prizes in each contest include laptops and digital cameras. For more information and the themes for each grade level, go to the Humane Society website.
• Eugene Concert Choir’s Education Outreach Program – The Eugene Concert Choir’s Education Outreach Program (ECCO) is in its third season of bringing an in-class educational presentation to students as part of our educational mission. If you’re interested in having them come to your class, see the attached flyer for details.
• Increasing Academic Engagement – Attached is a PBIS newsletter that came via Brie Stiller. It’s FILLED with loads to great reminders for when you’re working with kids in classrooms (wait time, circulation, echoing, etc…). Definitely worth reading.
• Work Sample Data Entry – For 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers, if you need a refresher on how to enter work samples into eSIS, there is a now a handy 6 minute training video on the district work sample website. This webpage also has pretty much all the information you’d need to know about work sample requirements. Also remember that teachers with work sample responsibility get up to twelve hours of release time that can be scheduled during the school year in increments of four hours. Those days can be used for record keeping, assessment or planning related to standards based instruction.
• easyCBM Pilot Message – Those of you who have visited the easyCBM site recently may have noticed that there is a message on the front page entitled “Embedded Pilot Measures!” Don’t panic! This message does not concern 4J, as we have already completed our winter benchmarking.
• Fire Drill – Please note our January Fire Dill will be at 8:40 on Wednesday. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
• EEA Seminar Series – There are lots of good professional development opportunities offered through the EEA Seminar Seires. A list of classes can be found on the EEA members site.

Have an excellent week!
