Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a fabulous break and are feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I particularly enjoyed the snow, even though it didn’t really stick for long.

Six items of note for this week:

• New Staff Mix CD “Guilty Pleasures” – Let’s start the new year with a new Staff Mix CD. Last time we did a Summer Tunes theme, but this time the theme will be “Guilty Pleasures”, meaning those songs you feel embarrassed to admit you really really like. Neil Diamond? Vanilla Ice? Percy Faith? Email or tell me the name of one or two songs you greatly enjoy but don’t always like to admit you enjoy. Anyone who submits a song will get a copy of the CD. The deadline to submit a song is Friday, January 14th. (PS: I count myself among the secret Neil Diamond fans)
• January 3rd Professional Development Schedule – Quick reminder of the upcoming math professional development on Jan. 3rd. Workshops for grade level teachers are from 8:00 – 11:30 AM. The rest of this day is dedicated for teacher planning. Please see the flyer that was emailed for locations and what materials to bring. A workshop designed for Special Education teachers will take place from 12:00-3:30 at Cesar Chavez Elementary. Special Education teachers are welcome to come to morning workshops; however, this is optional.
• CLC Staff Changes – Maureen has decided to retire and will not be returning after the break.  There will be a sub filling in for the time being until ESS gets the position posted and we can hire a replacement.
• School Choice Dates – As an FYI, the school choice dates were changed this year to be about a month later. The reason for the change was due to the lateness of staffing this year, which is due to the lateness of the sustainable budget decisions.
• Dr. Wilderness Assembly in May– It’s a ways off, but EWEB is offering “Dr. Wilderness Assemblies”, which focus on the Earth – the water planet, conservation, recycling, science, natural history and ecology, and features stage magic, stories and music. I’ve arranged for an assembly on Tuesday, May 17th. We’ll do it in the gym at 11:50-12:40 for Corridor and 1:10-2:00 for YG.
• Apple Security Updates – There have been several security updates over the past few months for Apple computers and 3rd party applications that run on Macs. You should run these on your staff computer (by going up to the Apple and down to “Software Update”) and also on student machines if you are able to.

Have a great week back, everyone!
