Hi Everyone!

I’ve got quite a few items for this week. Be sure you make it through them all.

• Homework Club Scholarships – The after-school Homework Club run by Jeanne Mandrapa received an EEF grant earlier this year for tuition scholarships. Let me know if you have students who would benefit from attending the Homework Club on Tuesday and Thursday, but might not be able to afford the $30 monthly tuition.
• 09/10 Staffing – HR has given principals the staffing timeline for the 2009-2010 school year. We will receive our staffing on February 13th (yes, that’s Friday the 13th). I’ll let folks know where we are in comparison to the current school year as soon as I get that information. Remember to email or give me a hardcopy of your staffing survey by the end of January, so I can have a place to start for when we begin discussing staffing plan scenarios for next school year. Here are some other dates of note from the staffing timeline:

o March 11 – Updated budget forecast from the state released.
o March 23 – Staffing Plans due to HR.
o April 1 – Deadline for retirement notice to HR by certified staff retiring between Apr. 1-Nov. 15 without penalty.
o May 1 – Personal and Professional leave requests due to HR. After this date, personal and professional leave requests are put on hold until August or until staffing is completed and an adequate replacement is available. This does not apply to medical/family leaves.
o May 6 – June 3 – Certified exclusive four week posting period.
o June 3 – August 3 – Licensed posting season begins (internals first then externals)

• School Choice Tours – School Choice Tours will be next week. Please keep in mind I’ll be taking groups into classrooms during the tour times. Please feel free to talk with parents on the tour and tell them what you’re doing with kids. I’m sure they’d be interested. Tour dates for January are:

o Monday, Jan 26 – 12:45-1:45, Yujin Gakuen
o Tuesday, Jan. 27 – 8:30-9:30, Corridor
o Wednesday, Jan 28 – 9:00-10:00, Yujin Gakuen
o Thursday, Jan. 29 – 8:30-9:30, Corridor

• OAKS Problems – Due to problems with system slowness this past week, the district has instructed us to discontinue OAKS Online testing immediately and not initiate any further test sessions until we are notified. ODE will notify the district no later than 10 AM on Tuesday as to when testing can resume. I will send an email once I know testing can resume.
• Checking Easy CBM for Incompletes – You can check for incompletes for any of the on line testing. To check:

o Log into EasyCBM
o Go to the measures tab
o Choose the test you want to check (winter MCRC, winter math appl, winter math comp)
o Choose enter scores for that test,
o The screen will have scores for the class and the word ‘incomplete’ by tests that are not complete

• Lane County 2009 Science Fair – Attached (2009-science-fair-announcement.doc) is a flyer describing the Lane County 2009 Science Fair for students in grades 3-8. Projects are judged using the scientific inquiry scoring guide.
• Presidential Inauguration – If you want to show kids any of the presidential inauguration you can watch it live here: http://cnn.com/live, at 8:30 on the 20th. The inaugural parade starts at 11:30. If you’re looking for lesson plans related to the inauguration, here are some links from Teaching Tolerance. Most of them are for older kids, but some are appropriate for younger kids. http://www.tolerance.org/teach/activities/activity.jsp?ar=1041

Enjoy the four day week!
