State & District Testing
Most students have completed state testing in English and Math. This week, a few students who have been absent or who need extended time will have an opportunity to finish. Next week, we will wrap up district Easy CBM tests.
Visiting Artists
Cajun Fiddle:
We will enjoy our final week with Cajun fiddle artist-in-residence Kelly Thibodeaux next week. Each class will have three sessions next week. Here is a link if you want to learn more about Kelly and his program: http://lanearts.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/KellyThibodeauxArtOfFiddling.pdf
Le français:
•We conjugate verbs in our writing and speaking.
•We are learning to use the Internet to locate specific information.
•We are reading passages in French to glean pertinent information.
•We present our country to other students. We stand straight, enunciate, pronounce French words correctly, are prepared to share dates and statistics in French, and demonstrate that we know our country.
•We listen to other students’ presentations to learn about other francophone countries, and we learn to ask appropriate questions and to share pertinent and pleasant comments.
We have spent most of our time again this week on the Francophone country project. Many students have completed their dodecahedrons, and eight students have presented. Since I have so little EA help, finished students are helping other students cut out and staple together their forms. It’s really sweet to see how collaborative they’re being.
I did sample presentations on Monday, and for those kids who are nervous about presenting in front of the whole class, I’ve got supports in place, and we’ve been talking about what those supports can look like.
The last French homework of the year is this week and following up from the prior homework where we practiced accent grave (è), this week’s vocabulary contains words that include an accent aigu. Accent aigu (é) only ever goes over the letter “e” and only ever makes one sound. Here is the homework: vocab é mai 2022 l Vocab
We began spring French assessments last week, and nearly everyone has completed reading and comprehension. We’ll spend the next few weeks completing assessments in Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
Les sciences humaines (Social studies):
Any student who hasn’t yet completed the dodecahedron was asked to take the rest of the faces home to finish up in pencil. If this occurred, many students will be able to finish up the dodecahedron on Monday. We are shifting from working on the country projects to spending the preponderance of our time on presenting Francophone country projects. Again, this is the scoring ticket, which will be attached to your student’s research packet when it comes home. The maximum is 4 out of 4, and 3 out of 4 meets standards.
Geometry
Homework: No homework this week.
Students read about the planet Mars last week. This week, your child will use the information they learned about the Red Planet to write science fiction narratives, pretending to be a member of the first team of astronauts to land on Mars. They will write about the difficulties they face and how they overcome them. This will be a multi-day process so that they can write some truly amazing stories. We look forward to seeing what your students write as they integrate what they’ve learned about writing this year with factual information they’ve learned from Mme. Lacey’s unit on Mars.
