Mme Jana’s Class:

Le français:  Children are reacquainting themselves with speaking French, which will be 100% of the time by the end of this month. One thing we are exploring is vowel sounds. We’ll be adding vocabulary for regular everyday use, like today (aujourd’hui), tomorrow (demain) and yesterday (hier), and they will have science vocabulary to learn beginning the week of Oct. 18. I hope to begin reader’s theater in a couple of weeks. French reading and writing assessments are also occurring in these first few weeks.

Les sciences:  We will begin our Energy unit which will last most of the fall. Students will work in cooperative groups and learn about insulators and conductors as well as circuits for the first few weeks. All sciences are taught in French. Students may have some on-line science reading to do as homework. I will keep you posted on that.

Les sciences humaines (Social studies): Will begin in October or November, depending on the students’ abilities with reading more complicated texts.

Mme Shelli’s Class:

English Language Arts:  We will read and discuss an excerpt from Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo and discuss story elements of setting, plot, character, and the author’s use of flashback.  Students will write a summary of a text and read related short stories. EasyCBM reading testing will begin this week.  Click the red “Journeys Reading” above to follow along with us.

Math: We are reviewing skills learned in 3rd grade including multiplication, factors, and area. For the first two weeks, we’re discussing how we learn math, language, and more.  Students have been learning

  • Our brains grow when we have a positive attitude.
  • Mistakes help us learn.
  • Learning concepts in depth is more important than being fast.
