“The Kitchen”
Do you collect things? Are you messy or neat? In your own space, in your class, your desk? This is a conundrum that has perplexed humans for all time. I have a shelf in my kitchen filed with wacky things. Sometimes people bring things to add to the display, and now it is chock full. The display does not have an intentional theme, but red elements wander throughout. Try writing a comment, haiku, poem or song about collections or messes.

This sculpture is by Richard Serra. I was lucky enough to visit it and others while at a special museum exhibit in New York. They are about 15 feet tall and very heavy. Being altered steel, they have a fascinating, varied, rusted appearance and texture. I wandered through these sculptures and felt their heavy enormity as their winding sections alternately loomed over me and arched away. I became “lost” in the experience. Have you visited a place that made you feel like you were emotionally transported, like you escaped to another place in time or space? Try using this as a creative writing prompt. Haiku? Poem?
