Welcome to Room 10!

Hello Room 10 Families,

I look forward to meeting you and your student! We’ll have a great year in first grade at Adams!

During the first few weeks of school, as well as throughout the year, students will learn classroom and school procedures, routines, and expectations. These will all support academic and social-emotional learning. We follow Adams PRIDE (perseverance, respect, integrity, discipline, and effort), encourage a growth mindset, and offer an inclusive, welcoming space to provide a safe learning community. Understandably, each student progresses differently in their growth and development. Here are some things to work on with your first grader:

  • Arrive to school on time every day. Think – early is on time!
  • Follow teacher and staff directions – for fun, safety, and learning.
  • Communicate – listen and contribute.
  • Use the restroom appropriately and independently.
  • Wash your hands appropriately.
  • Zip and button clothing independently.
  • Learn to tie your shoes independently.
  • Return your Friday Folder, completed homework, and school library books each week on time.
  • Read daily, with someone or on your own.
  • Be kind to your body and mind, get plenty of sleep.
  • Bring your sense of humor, fun, and curiosity for learning!
  • Use a safe body around others.
  • Use kind words, take turns, and encourage others.
  • Learn from your mistakes and support others, too.
  • Keep trying and do your best.
  • Handle all school supplies, including technology, safely.

Please read school and district messages regarding school-wide news and updates, as well as my Friday newsletters for class info and tips. I will send my first newsletter with a link to a digital survey about your child, to complete before school begins. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to discuss about your student, or if you have any questions about school or community supports.

I have allergies and sensitivities to perfumes, colognes, scented hair products, and scented hand sanitizers, so please keep your teacher happy, healthy, and headache-free – do not send any scented items to school with or on your student. I encourage handwashing, but I’ll also purchase unscented hand sanitizer if the school doesn’t provide it.

Take care and see you soon!
Ms. Nora
