Dear Families,
It is so wonderful to start school with many new and old friends. We are so lucky to have Cassidy Temple teach on Mondays
Our class has now 32 students who will learn to show an eagerness to learn, be kind to each other and work hard.

I will use the blogs. 4j.lane.edu/gelzer to share highlights of the weeks, assignments, and photos when possible.

Topics for the month of September
Reading and Language Arts: Cassidy will be using the Houghton Mifflen Text on Monday morning with stories, reading skills, and activities. She will give the spelling word list, have students start their spelling work, and begin cursive review.

I will be leading Dear Mr. Henshaw, Beverly Cleary’s classic novel, Tues. through Friday with a variety of reading skills. Students will read their own choices and record them on HRTS.The form is signed by an adult and handed in on Monday.

The students have started to write in their journals and will explore modes of writing, the traits and the writing process throughout the year.

Math:The students will work on computation drills, teaching math concepts of multiplication. I will continue these activities, along with math games using Envisions and Investigations.

Science Land and Water is our first science kit that integrates geography and science with data collecting, recording, and presenting. Students work in teams getting their hands wet while building earth/water models.

PE class / Music class is taught by Rachel Farcus in the morning and Mrs. Root leads music. These classes will continue for the next nine weeks.

Library:  We will have time for book check out and computer lab to practice keyboarding, research skills. Our library collection improves when students borrow and ask for books that appeal to their interests. We will need several alternating library volunteers to help with checkout.
