Dear Families,

How sad this past Saturday for those who support the Ducks. My family is forlorn, but the good news is that Thanksgiving arrives this week! Do enjoy it with family, friends, and your community.

Topics

Reading: On Monday, Cassidy leads the class in stories and skills from the basal textbook. On Tuesday -Friday, the class continues to read Number the Stars, our first historical fiction novel. The background of Denmark saving Jewish families during WWII has engaged the students to ask and discuss important issues. Thanks to Brianna and Yan run for giving extra support to students.

•Math:  Making up division problems with remainders and solving them by using multiplication pictures and equations  is improving. We’re working on math concepts: factors, multiples, finding the 10th, 20th multiple….and multiplying by 10s, using “landmark” numbers. We are playing a game called “Bagels, Pico , Fermi“. Ask your child to teach you!

•Science – We are lucky to have practicum student, Kevin to help with our experiments and keep students humored and in line. We’ve changed the landscape by  using rocks and hills to see the effect it has on the flow of water and how slope effects the land. Students will plant seeds to add to our stream tables, and explore how plants impact the land next week.

•Social Studies: Great map skills plotting latitude/longitude points of earthquakes and volcanoes. We continue with Geography questions from National Geographic.

Nutrition/ Yoga/ PE : We are lucky to have funding for another two classes of PE with teacher Michele. Jenny Vondracek and I will start teaching our health unit of Nutrition and Yoga once/ twice weekly depending on the schedule.

Other Activities: Our Month of Sharing will start soon. Students may bring in nutritious dry /canned foods for those in need. NW Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” to students Wed. morning.

Bonne Semaine et Buenas Semanas and Happy Holidays,

Debra, Cassidy, and Yan run
