Dear Families,

Thank you for your generous giving of food this month. We’re near the music room and see the full boxes of contributions from Edison families. The last date for giving is Dec. 13th.

Early Vacations: For students and families leaving early, it is helpful to let Rose in the office know that your child will not be in school on the following dates. The homework that your child can do would be to read and summarize what they read. They can can also bring a composition book to write about the journey. It would fun to share it when they return to class. Thank you for those who have already contacted me.

Language: Students are writing poems about rivers, which will be entered in the “Honoring our Rivers” contest. It comes at a great time since we finished our Land and Water Science Unit. We continually work on conventions, and use our spelling words in our writing.

Reading: We are now reading self selected chapter books about animals! We will have several assignments during the week. Students can read as much as they’d like. Please note to listen to your child read. if the book your child chose is too difficult, I will need to ask him/her to select an easier one. This is a tough situation, since the student might think others are judging them. I will try my hardest to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Math Our multiplication and division unit is drawing to close. We have been working with Number Cards, four numbers and a larger number in the middle. By using +,- , x and divide one gets the answer. It is fun, but can take time and patience.

Social Studies: Our geography unit continues with Pangea, scale of miles, and Oregon land features.

Nutrition/Yoga: Jenny and I both enjoy sharing classes. Teaching yoga is wonderful because I can see immediate results of calmer and more flexible students.

Happy Holidays, Bon Vacances, Felize Navidad, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year,

Debra, Cassidy, and Yanrun
