You order ships to launch a salvo of nuclear missiles at it. At the last minute, it disappears. Yet you find two alien motiles in an abandoned asteroid they were exploring. They are retrieved for you to examine. The aliens possess an interesting technology, a crystal that retains their memories. You dissect the useless creatures and read the crystal data. One of them had information on wormhole-generating techniques, the other the coordinates of their entire civilization. They may yet destroy you in the future, be it 10 years or 10000 years.
