Creating A Complex Object Prototype (Individual): Solving a complex design problem

Descriptions:Students will explore different software applications for creating a complex 3D prototype design(s). As a class we will brainstorm ideas for replicating and/or customizing designs for common objects that are used to solve routine problems. Examples might include designing a set of gears that will be used in conjunction with an shaft to turn or move another object, a protective device for smart phones (custom designed smart phone case), etc. Detail in specifying measures for design elements becomes essential to successful builds.

Students will use 123d Design and/or  Sketchup to “solve” their problem. Objects may need to be imported to Meshmixer for final tweaking and prepping for 3D printing.

Reflection:I didn’t know how to top off my mug so I decided to make a “Puppy Bank” as my complex problem.
