Hi everyone,

I had a busy labor intensive weekend at my house. I did not get my blog done until this afternoon. Sorry about that. Taking It Up: Next Steps

Congratulations to Andrew, Arwen, and Beth for completing the Takling It Up Conversations on Race Training. We now have at least 6 members of our staff that have been trained in this area. There are many others who are interested as well ( Let me know if you want to be trained in February). We will have some time during the January 7th PD day to discuss next steps as a staff on equity issues in our building.

Personal Device Project Pilot is a go!

Peter Tromba and Kim Ketterer presented James and myself with some exciting news about a new project to bring personal devices to each 4th and 5th grader at Awbrey Park. All 4th and 5th grade teachers will be using tablets in our building by the end of the year. This project is developing very rapidly and we should see devices from this project in our building sometime in January. In addition, the CLCB and Awbrey LC will also be receiving devices and training through this project.  This is being funded by a $1.2 million portion of the 2011 bond. Spring Creek, and Madison are also involved in our region.

District Using Fleet Funds to pay for new positions in 12-13

The district made a decision to use building fleet funds to pay for 17 new positions in the 12-13 school year. We had a 28.3% cut from our fleet fund. Read the rationale below posted by Simone Sangster our CFO.  Fleet Fund Talking Points I am happy to talk to you about the details of this if you would like more information about the finances at Awbrey Park.

Science Vocabulary – The Edgewood Principal, Larry Williams, asked the rest of our group if anyone had done work in the area of science vocabulary. The science TOSA, Angie Ruzicka, responded by sharing the following link to the complete glossary of terms for the science kits and also shared the test specifications for the Science OAKS assessment. I don’t expect this to be a major focus of ours anytime soon, but I did want to pass these resources along to teachers.

Have a great week brave educators!

Joel
