Properties of Matter (POM)

Our new unit is called Properties of Matter or POM. It is a chemistry unit in which we will explore characteristic properties of matter. (those are properties that are evident no matter how much of a substance you have) These include, color, crystal shape, density, solubility, melting point, malleability, conductivity etc. We will also be exploring the whether mass is conserved in different situations and determining the difference between physical and chemical change. As part of this unit we will take a detour into the periodic table and atomic structure (these are items included on the Science OAKS test, but not included in the unit) Students will be given a science notebook and a textbook to take and leave at home. There are links to the science notebook SN and the text book on the SN tab above in case students need to access either item when they don’t have paper copies. SNs will be turned in on most Fridays for evaluation. Homework is included in the science notebook and must be completed on time to receive full credit. (a stamp denotes that an assignment was completed on time). Quizzes will be given using Edmodo and unit tests that include hands on assessments will be given three times throughout the unit. If you miss class or get behind or confused please check my office hours and come in for help. These hours change weekly due to my meeting schedule and it is important to check before planning to come in.
