9th Grade (Section 13)

Groups shared their assignment #1 in literature circles and I stamped the yellow chart #1- we completed a discussion on the first section of The Samurai’s Garden, relooked at diction (word choice) and selected assignment #2 on our chart. After, I introduced a lesson on Ikebana, positive/negative space and Japanese gardens. If out please review this powerpoint:  japan day 4

Homework: Read Pages 54-70 and start thinking about Assignment #2 (Due after break!) Wish cards die next class.

11th Grade (Section 12)

Today we presented posters and concluded our talk (well- kinda) on transcendentalism. I say “kinda” because Whitman was a true transcendentalist and his work clearly reflects this democratic expansive mind set. We took notes on style: Whitman Intro  as well as reviewed note taking strategies.

Homework: Read and annotate the article : “Poet celebrated…” as well as the poem on page 6 of packet “I saw in Louisiana…”

11th Grade (Sections 11 and 13)

Discussion of “I saw in Louisiana a Live Oak Growing”: note connections with transcendental view of nature as well as metaphor. Annotate according to Whitman’s style. We had good discussion over this short poem. We read and annotated “This Compost” and discussed the three sections in relation to the time period, literary style, and meaning.

Homework: Over break, read and annotate “Song of Myself”
