9th Grade: We finished and shared our two voice poems! I did not collect this, but I did collect the short character quiz we ook. If you were out – please see me for this.

11th Grade: This week is all about Gatsby: in your packets you should have completed: Major character impressions, minor character impressions, summaries up to Ch 7, setting maps, and gossip/lies. We have talked structure, motifs, language, and time period and watched a few clips from the new movie. Did you take the quiz?

9th Grade: We discussed Botswana writer Bessie Head’s story “Looking for a Rain God”. Please the the powerpoint for annotation pointers. We also began our visual “Rain Drop” with specific focus on a selected quote. See me for details. botswanabessie

11th Grade: Today was all characters! Ensure you filled out the initial impressions of the characters we met in Chapter 1. We analyzed the chapter and watched the first 8 minutes of the film’s opening scene. Gatsby Day 2 2017

Spring Break Reminders

11th Grade: Your essays have a firm deadline- paper copies are do to me on Friday March 24th by 2:30pm and uploaded to Turnitin.com by midnight of the same night.  Deductions exist for late work turned in by Sunday. Essays will not be accepted after Sunday, March 26th. Good job getting things wrapped up!

11th Grade: Today we really enjoyed getting some time to prepare for Smarter Balance testing, right? We spent about 30 minutes with this- and then talked about Chronicle of a Death Foretold. If you were out, come in and take a quick quiz.

HW: Read Chapter 3

9th Grade: We finished up chapter 2 of “Kaffir Boy” and answered questions 5-9 in the study guide. Some classes began their passbook assignments, but most will have to wait until tomorrow.

9th Grade: I introduced elements of African art- specifically focusing on the South African Geometrical Art. We spent class playing around with the techniques and producing a beautiful final product.

11th Grade: Fabulous food day enjoying each others stories and recipes! Today we also picked up our novels, Chronicle of a Death Foretold.

LOTA: Today we presented our Zitkala-Sa skits. I handed back and went over the Whitman Analysis. Scored were low- so I encourage you to make edits to re submit. Print outyour new draft, highlight changes, and staple to the first draft by Friday of next week.

9th Grade: We turned in our Character Cut-out after our character interviews. Short class today but we got a chance to get into our final discussion groups and begin preparing for final thoughts on the novel. See me when you get back if you were out.

11th Grade: HI! Reminder that last class we turned in our comparison charts for “The Lost Beautifullness” and “In the Land of the Free”- we also read over the chilling poetry carved on walls. Today we discussed “South of the Slot” and the duality that exists between the character. We also begin to think about our dollar bill assignment- although this won’t be due until after we complete our work with Zitkala Sa. I will give more class time for it, but begin to gather ideas!

9th Grade: Hey there we are almost done with our book! Today we looked at the poetic language of the novel. See me for today’s handout. We also played around with haiku and tankas.
