9th Grade (both sections)

Class began with a quick open notes reading quiz. Please see me for this information if you were out. I provided a brief overview of Colonization of Australia and the convict immigrants. If you were out, please research convicts in Australia and e-mail me for the Powerpoint. We spent the remainder of class discussing our tough Aboriginal Story “Dr. Wooreddy’s Prescription for Enduring the End of the World”. Students traveled in groups around to 9 different stations around the room, exploring the symbols that came up in the story. We charted quotes, provided individual analysis and possible explanations for what the quotes symbolically represented.

Homework: Read “Breaking a Man’s Spirit” and paraphrase historical information that comes up in the text relating to the convict system.

11th Grade: IB LOTA

We completed our “Mad” discussion of the “Tell Tale Heart” and began to critique “The Raven”, Poe’s career defining piece. We annotated for style and language and also compared the six times the narrator spoke to the Raven to elicit “Nevermore”. It is important to see the progressing of pace and perhaps temporary madness in the progressing of questions. We also watched the Simpson’s rendition of “The Raven”. Absent? Go to teachertube.com and find the video- you wont be disappointed (but maybe Poe would). We finished up with a mini Gothic card that dramatizes the stanza that was assigned. Absent? Turn in your analysis, e-mail me for the Power Point, and e-mail me!

Homework: Finish art card and read “Annabell Lee”
