9th Grade Global Literature

Short day today! I stamped your “Marngit”/”U308” charts. If you were absent- ensure you see me for a stamp! We discussed strategies for reading challenging text. No doubt, “U308” is a tricky story with an underlining metaphor. We completed a close reading of the story and then began our next story- perhaps the most challenging of the whole unit: “Dr. Wooreddy’s Prescription for Enduring the End of the World”. Know that it is highly symbolic- please do the best that you can and annotate with paraphrase as you go! Pre-read the study questions for guidance.

Homework: Complete “Dr. Wooreddy’s Prescription for Enduring the End of the World”. Paraphrase in the Margins. Answer starred (*) questions in the back.

11th Grade IB Literature

Short day Today! We completed Poe’s “The Black Cat” skits, and reviewed elements of suspense. Students should be aware that use of caesura (dash), varied sentence structure, and repetition all support suspenseful writing. Please indicate five examples of each in “The Tell Tale Heart”. Students also took an in-class quiz on the story. See me for details.

Homework: annotate for elements of suspense! Next class: In class analysis of Hawthorne/Poe
